<br />'!I-IJ , <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING <br />LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS <br /> <br />NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Redwood City will hold a public <br />hearing on the expenditure of $83,941 in Local Law Enforcement Block Grant <br />funds for which the City will receive. The Omnibus appropriations Act authorized <br />the Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance to make funds available to units of <br />local government under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) <br />program for the purposes of reducing crime and improving public safety. Funds <br />must be used for one or more of the following seven proposed areas: <br /> <br />~ Law Enforcement Support: Hiring additional officers, paying overtime to law <br />enforcement officers or procuring equipment related to law enforcement <br />functions. <br />Þ- Enhancing security measures in and around schools or other facilities or <br />locations considered a special risk for incidents of crime. <br />Þ- Establishing or supporting drug courts. <br />~ Enhancing the adjudication of cases involving violent offenders, including cases <br />involving violent juvenile offenders. <br />~ Establishing a multi-jurisdictional task force to work with Federal law <br />enforcement to prevent and control crime. <br />~ Establishing crime prevention programs to control, detect, or investigate crime <br />or the prosecution of criminals. <br />~ Defray the cost of indemnification insurance for law enforcement officers. <br /> <br />It will be the recommendation of the Police Chief to dedicate the funds to procure <br />law enforcement related equipment, including technological equipment, and to <br />provide training for law enforcement personnel. <br /> <br />You have the right to comment on the proposed expenditure at a public hearing to <br />be held on the 11th day of December 2000, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, <br />1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. Testimony must either be given <br />in person at the time of the public hearing or received, in writing, by the police <br />department prior to the date of the hearing.
