<br />I,., 152- <br /> <br />It is the Police Chiefs recommendation that this year's entire award, including interest, be dedicated to <br />provide training for law enforcement personnel and to procure law enforcement related equipment, <br />including technological equipment. The department is exploring several alternatives and will make <br />equipment purchases based on the greatest needs of the department and favorable cost/benefit <br />factors. <br /> <br />The police department will also receive a Citizens Option for Public Safety (COPS) grant from the State <br />of California. This year's grant is $169,234. This is the fifth year that the department will receive the <br />COPS grant. It will be proposed by the Police Chief that the entire COPS grant will be dedicated to the <br />salaries and benefits of the new police officer positions approved by City Council pursuant to the <br />staffing study. <br /> <br />Alternative <br />I. Follow the Police Chiefs recommendation that this year's award be dedicated to provide training <br />for law enforcement personnel and to procure law enforcement related equipment based on the <br />greatest needs of the department and favorable cost/benefit factors. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />. -Return the funds to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The LLEBG program requires a cash match in the amount of $9,327. Interest derived from the award <br />does not have to be matched, but cannot be used to match the Federal award.
