<br />DES:djk "3/19/91 <br /> <br />(065/28) <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />1984, <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />San <br /> <br />Francisco <br /> <br />Bay <br /> <br />Area <br /> <br />very <br /> <br />successfully hosted and supported the preliminary rounds of the <br /> <br />Olympic soccer competition held at Stanford Stadium; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />This Council hereby welcomes the 1994 World Cup Soccer <br /> <br />Competition, and hereby declares its full support of the efforts <br /> <br />of the local organizing commi t.tee, World Cup San Francisco Bay <br /> <br />Area 1994, to obtain the selection of the San Francisco Bay Area <br /> <br />as a 1994 World Cup venue site. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />This Council urges <br /> <br />and encourages <br /> <br />all affected local <br /> <br />governments and special agencies to cooperate fully with World <br /> <br />Cup San Francisco Bay Area 1994 and the World Cup organizers to <br /> <br />the end that the San Francisco Bay Area shall be selected as a <br /> <br />1994 <br /> <br />World <br /> <br />Cup <br /> <br />venue <br /> <br />site; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />further, <br /> <br />urges <br /> <br />all <br /> <br />cities, <br /> <br />counties, <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />other <br /> <br />organizations, <br /> <br />upon <br /> <br />selection <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />San <br /> <br />Francisco Bay Area as a World Cup 1994 venue site, to plan and <br /> <br />implement <br /> <br />auxiliary <br /> <br />events, <br /> <br />such <br /> <br />as <br /> <br />ethnic <br /> <br />festivals <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />art <br /> <br />exhibits, <br /> <br />which <br /> <br />will <br /> <br />maximize <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />internat.ional <br /> <br />flavor <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />cooperation and competition engendered by World Cup Soccer. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />The City Clerk is hereby authorized and direct.ed to <br /> <br />transmit a certified copy of this resolution to World Cup San <br />Francisco Bay Area 1994. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />11496 <br /> <br />. .'r---- <br />
