start and finish on the 1700 block of Seaport Boulevard, in conjunction with a law
enforcement demonstration that will be occurring simultaneously.

If approved, the 5k run would begin at 8:00 a.m. on December 16, 2017, going west on
Seaport Boulevard, following the road counterclockwise as it goes around Pacific
Shores, then traveling westbound on Seaport Boulevard, with a turnaround at
Chesapeake Drive. Participants will follow the same route in reverse for the return leg,
with the finish line being in front of 1700 Seaport Boulevard.

The 1-mile walk would begin at 8:15 a.m. at 1700 Seaport Boulevard. It would go west
on Seaport Boulevard, following the road counter clockwise as it goes around the
Pacific Shores complex. At a specified location, the route turns left onto a footpath and
goes through the Pacific Shores complex, and then turns left onto Seaport Boulevard
and finishes as the same place it started. Both events are expected to be completed by
9:30 a.m.

Should alterations be required, any change to the race routes will be determined under
the supervision and approval of the Police Chief or his designee. A map is attached for
reference.

The owners of the Pacific Shores complex support the event and have consented to the
use of their property for the stated purpose. The cadets have completed an extensive
notification process to the affected businesses along the route and no objections have
been received by staff.

The event was originally scheduled for October 14, 2017, but due to the poor air quality
caused by the North Bay wildfires the event was rescheduled to December 16, 2017 out
of concern for the runners’ health.

ALTERNATIVES
The City Council could choose not to adopt a Resolution authorizing the street closure.
The selection of this alternative would prohibit the Run with the Cops event from taking
place in Redwood City.

FISCAL IMPACT
The Redwood City Police Department cadets will volunteer their services to conduct
traffic control on the day of the event. The cadets will also provide personnel to conduct
the necessary postings of the affected roadways under the supervision of the Police
Department. There are no other City services required.

7.3.A. - Page 2
