':' : <br /> <br />mcbn, : I.l <br /> <br />The meeting-was called to order by Chairman Millington. <br /> <br />Letter from Recreation Director Alfred' Morton was <br />acknowledged, whích gave a,complete and detailed report of the <br />activities of the iècreational department to date, and also <br />suggestions for future activities. <br /> <br />A detailed map from City Manager Dimmitt showing <br />locations of schools, school athle~ic fièlds, playg~ou~ds, <br />Emerald Lake Bowl site, etc., was also acknowledged. <br /> <br /> <br />The highlights of Mr. Morton's letter were discussed <br />and acted upon as follows: <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />#1. <br /> <br />-, . <br /> <br />Physical Education ~upervisor for Grammar Schools. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed this proposal with interest <br /> <br />,; - . . <br /> <br />and a motion was made by Mr. Van Gundy, seconded by Mr. Bagan, <br />and ,carried, .th~t Mr. Andrew Spinae, Superintendent of schools <br />in Redwood City, be asked to attend the next meeting of the <br />Commission to express his views on this sUbject. The Chairman <br />directed the Secretary to write a letter inviting Mr. Spinas <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />to the next meeting. <br /> <br />'j <br /> <br />#2. <br /> <br />Recreational Center. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />While this was looked upon with favor, it was the <br />general feeling of the group that this'was something to be <br />hoped for in the distant future, and that there were no steps <br />to be taken at the present time, other than to talk -about it <br />and keep it in the minds of the pUblic as something to be <br />eventually realized. The same thought was expressed regarding <br />the development of the Emerald Lake Bowl. - <br /> <br />#'s 3, 4 and 6. <br /> <br />Redwood City Cross Country RAce,1938 <br />Redwood City Marathon Race, 1938 <br />Redwood City Harbor SWim, Sept.'1838 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />It was felt that these three proposed events were <br /> <br />- - , . - <br /> <br />more for outsi-der's than they were. -for Redwood City folks, who <br />must be the first consideration of-the Commission. However, <br />it was agreed that they were good pUblicity stunts, both for <br />Redwood City, ~nd for 1;he,Recreation Department: and Mr. Morton <br />was asked to submit 'costs of these three events at the next <br />meeting for further con~id~rat~on. ~ <br /> <br />- i <br />J- <br /> <br />#5. <br /> <br />Dancing School throughout the year. <br /> <br />This seemed to be a worth while project and -it <br /> <br />- - d <br /> <br />.
