<br />Present: City Manager -Chas. L. Dimmitt, all members of the
<br />Commission, including the two newly appointed me~
<br />bers, Donald Bogie, Vice-Principal of Sequoia Union
<br />High School, and Andrew Spin as, City Supt. of Schools:
<br />Councilmen Evans A. ,Fletche~ and James M. Eva, Recre-

<br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Millington,
<br />a~d the minutes of t~e previous meeting ordered read, which upon
<br />motion made, seconded and carried, were approved as read.

<br />Communications: Letter receivèd from the Chamber of
<br />I
<br />
<br />Commerce addressed to Chairman Millington informing the Commi$sion
<br />of the favorable action of the Board of Directors of the Chamber
<br />of Commerce regarding their recommendation to the City Council
<br />that the City's participation in the Harbor Swim and Cross Country
<br />Run for 1938, amounting to $71.00, be taken care of out of the
<br />Ci~y's advertising fund, which is handled through the recommenda-
<br />tion of the Chamber of Commerce. The Secretary was directed to
<br />acknowledge the- letter from the Chamber of Commerce, thanking
<br />them, and advising them that when the proposed trophies, medals,
<br />etc., had been purchased. the commission would present the bills
<br />to the Chamber of Commerce for their approval.

<br />City Manager Dimmitt introduced Mr. Arthur Ryan, who
<br />presented the W. P. A. Recreation set-up and the contract offered
<br />by his bureau. Mr. Ryan stated that in order for the City to re-
<br />ceive the federally supported playground workers it is necess~y
<br />that the city spend about $272.50 per month for supervision, mater-
<br />ials, supplies, transpo~tation (gas), utilities, telephone and
<br />rental. He explained, however, that a large proportion of this
<br />$272.50 would be liq~idated on paper, such as a certain sum would
<br />be allowable for rental in cases where the school grounds, city
<br />owned buildings, etc., were used, and any money that the City is
<br />already spending for Recreation, so that it would work out that
<br />the City would only have to spend about $75.00 per month in add-
<br />ition to what it is now spending, the larger portion of which
<br />would be for materials, supplies, and transportatiQn (gas). The
<br />City would be entitled to use for its recreational program at the
<br />
