APPENDIX B | RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER PLANS AND REGULATIONS
B-5
REDWOOD CITY MOVES: CITYWIDE
TRANSPORTATION PLAN (ONGOING)
Redwood City’s strong economy, strategic location, and
frequent Caltrain service have attracted a substantial
amount of residential and commercial development over
recent years. This, coupled with strong economic growth
throughout the Bay Area, has resulted in increased traffic
congestion and questions within the community about the
impacts of development. The Citywide Transportation Plan
will work with the community to develop a framework for a
balanced multimodal transportation network addressing the
City’s transportation challenges and needs, and building off
Redwood City’s already robust and sustainable transporta-
tion system. The Plan will draw on the community’s exist-
ing transportation concerns and ideas for its transportation
future and identify:
• Ideas to serve the entire community, including children,
elderly, people with disabilities, low-income residents, as
well as workers and visitors
• Facilities and programs to best support walking, bicycling,
and transit
• Prioritizing improvements to get the most “bang for our
buck”
• Potential partnerships with new transportation modes,
like Lyft and Uber
• Future transportation technologies, such as self-driving
vehicles
More information can be found at http://rwcmoves.com/.
TRANSIT CENTER STUDY (ONGOING)
This study looks at potential short-term and long-term
improvements to the Downtown Transit Center that would
improve functionality, usability, and attractiveness. Caltrain
ridership is going up, and community members are using
the transit center to travel to jobs, home, and other activities
up and down the Peninsula. With the electrification of the
Caltrain line and new development in Downtown, there will
be even more users of the Downtown Transit Center.
Planning for improvements to the Transit Center will include:
• Conducting design studies for the Transit Center, includ-
ing pedestrian, shuttle, taxi, and bicycle connections,
train platform improvements, and inefficiencies in the
surrounding parking lots.
• Considering connections to the potential Broadway
Streetcar Line.
• Coordinating with Caltrain, SamTrans, and other affected
transportation agencies, as well as the El Camino Real
Corridor Plan.
• Providing public outreach opportunities for the public to
become informed and provide feedback on priorities and
issues.
More information can be found at http://www.redwoodc-
ity.org/departments/community-development-department/
planning-housing/planning-services/transit-station-redesgin.
