She stated <br />that they want to ensure people understand they can use those for <br />short-term rentals. <br /> <br />Commissioner Safdari asked if they have a breakdown of the <br />percentage of vacant versus occupied ADUs. <br /> <br />Ms. O’Dell stated they do not. <br /> <br />Mr. Aknin added that the state of CA issued a lot of new laws that <br />encouraged making it easier for accessory dwelling units to be built to <br />help curb the housing crisis. <br /> <br />Commissioner Safdari asked if they have any sense of how big of a <br />problem events are in current AirBNBs and VRBOs such as weddings. <br /> <br />Mr. Aknin stated he has not heard this issue reported in Redwood City, <br />however, this is an issue that they are trying to curb through the <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />Commissioner Safdari asked about how enforcement of that would <br />work. <br /> <br />Mr. Aknin stated that restriction would be given to AirBNB and other <br />hosting platforms. <br /> <br />Commissioner Safdari asked for clarification about the parking <br />requirement. <br /> <br />Ms. O’Dell stated that the idea was to encourage neighborliness to <br />ensure people are being considerate about parking and preserve <br />parking impacts in the neighborhood. <br /> <br />Commissioner Safdari asked if they have any context for how this is <br />working in other cities. <br /> <br />Ms. O’Dell stated they are the first city in the area to begin looking into <br />this and implementing new rules. <br /> <br />7.B. - Page 25
