i i •
RCIA finished their 2016/2017 fiscal year on November 30, 2017, with a budget of
$899,314. Under the adopted management plan, the annual funds collected must be
spent as follows:
Program or Activity funded
Sidewalk Operations and Beautification
District Identity and Signage
Administration/Operations
Parking
Contingency/Fees/Reserve
Percent of Annual Budget
53%
20%
15%
7%
5%
Below are some of RCIA's accomplishments for fiscal year 2016/2017.
Sidewalk Operations and Beautification (SOBO Committee)
The primary expense of this committee is the payment to keep the Downtown area
clean. Weekly sidewalk washing, daily cleaning and up -keep, as well as other on -
demand cleaning requests cost the district approximately $19,000 a month. RCIA funds
additional cleaning services for the City -owned garages on Marshall Street and
Jefferson Street, beyond the City's budgeted services. J&A Services, a minority-owned
Redwood City business, provides these services in the district. This important service
ensures that our community and guests find a pleasant atmosphere when visiting the
Downtown.
In addition, to the cleaning services, the SOBO committee also funded this past year:
• 150 new tree lights located along Broadway and Main Streets
• The Floral and Fauna murals featuring native animals painted by artist Jane Kim
• New tables, chairs and umbrellas located on Courthouse Square and Theatre
Way
• Four new emergency Automatic Emergency Defibrillation (AED) units
• Fifteen pet waste bags and dispensers
• The Magic Lantern show created for the 150th Anniversary of Redwood City
• A $25,000 sponsorship to 150th Organizing Committee
• Upgrades and maintenance to the Holiday trees located at Hamilton and
Broadway
Some upcoming projects this committee is pursuing for the coming fiscal year include
interactive mobile digital art installations, interactive digital information kiosks, new
Smart Cities technologies such as free Wi-Fi, and expanded Magic Lantern showings.
