These
funds are available as part of the $35M Downtown Funding Plan contingency

Background
The original FTB agreement for consulting services for downtown streetscape
improvements was approved by City Council and the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) Board
of Directors in May 2004. This agreement included services for design development and
construction documents for a preferred streetscape concept. The total amount funded for
this contract was $488,000.

This action was pursuant to a series of public study sessions regarding the design of
streetscape improvements for the downtown, specifically, the streets adjacent to the retail-
cinema project. Concepts for the design included sidewalks, dining terraces, landscape
features, street furniture, lighting, and the complete redesign of Middlefield Road (Theatre
Way area) between Broadway and Winslow, and that portion of Broadway (with a
protected drop-off area added) between Jefferson and Middlefield. From these meetings,
a preferred concept plan was generated. The development of the preferred concept and
the public meetings were performed under another agreement (approved in October 2002)
for a total of $224,574 and also included a wind study for the proposed outdoor dining area
as suggested by the City Council.

1:\2005 STAFF REPORTS, AGREEMENTS\O9-2005\ Amendment No.2 FTB Agreement Streetscape Design Services

1
