<br />REPORT <br /> <br />~I <br /> <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />September 12,2005 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Community Inclusion Consortium agreement with the State Council on Developmental <br />Disabilities and the City of Redwood City. . <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Council, by motion, authorize the City Manager to enter into the Agreement between the <br />State Council on Developmental Disabilities and the City of Redwood City for 2005/2006 <br /> <br />Background <br />Five overall goals in the 2004 Parks, Recreation and Community Service Department's <br />Strategic Plan provide direction for achieving the Department's vision and mission. One is <br />Community Services where we are focused on meeting community needs by directly <br />providing or facilitating the delivery of a wide range of support, educational and <br />informational services. One of the specific actions is to increase community service <br />program participation rates for people with disabilities. As part of this strategic action, the <br />Department applied for and received a grant from the California State Council on <br />Developmental Disabilities in the amount of $243,067.00 from October 1st, 2005 to <br />September 30th, 2006. <br /> <br />This grant will allow us to: <br /> <br />. Establish a "Community Inclusion Consortium" for Redwood City, which will help to <br />make all of our recreation programs fully inclusive to people with disabilities. <br />. Provide the resources to aggressively market to those who need special assistance <br />to participate in any of the activities that we provide. <br />. Open a line of communication between various agencies serving people wI disabilities in San <br />Mateo County <br />. Create a Recreation Guide specifically for people w/ disabilities for not only Redwood City, bL <br />also in San Mateo County <br />.
