He wanted a playing field for Sundays during a season of September to May. Red Morton said something might be worked out in back of Recrea- tion Building for one night a week. Discu~sion followed on field for games and McGarvey Field was suggested. Chairman Beals said he ~ould like to see fields used whenever possible but would go along with Mr. Morton's recommendation. Chair- man Beals suggested that Red Morton and Pasco Balzarini try to work out something with the soccer club, perhaps for next year. Mr. Beals stated that Commission is interested in soccer games for Redwood City but lack of bleachers is the great problem, noting that only $1,300 had been allowed in this year's budget for new ones (12 sections of 3 tier port- able type, 10' long, seating approximately 250 people.) II Planning Director Dick Wilkinson presented map of Farm Hills area specifically noti~ a 2~ acres heaiily wooded area be- longing to Mt. Alverno Convent as a possible park site as be- ing recommended by the Planning Commission. He said Convent is not interested in area becoming a park, their main object- ion being they do not want anyone around the Convent. After discussion, Commissioner Knecht moved that the Commission look at the area before coming to a decision. Seconded by Commissioner Whitmore and carried. Chairman Beals and Doris Thompson will arrange for a tour some day after 11 a.m. Mr. Wilkinson suggested that Commission could perhaps foster an "open space projectll by providing hiking trails along creek channels in the Hudson to El Camino areas between Jefferson and Woodside Road and along south and west city areas incl- ooed in ~t~ Hetchy ri~ts-of-way. ~ s~gested that ma~ beautiful oak trees could be saved if creek sides were not gunnited as is planned.
