Concerning a Commissioner's question <br />as to ownership of Union Cemetery, Mr. Wilkinson stated that <br />City now owned Cemetery and had contract with a cemetery Assoc- <br />iation for its perpetual maintenance. <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Ted Sys1ing appeared to enlist help in promoting a pro- <br />fessional soccer team in Redwood City. He explained a possi- <br />ble schedule of 14 games during a June~JU1y-August or, Ju1u- <br />August-September season; that League would not be ready until <br />1967, as meeting proposing formation of a Pacific Coast Socc- <br />er League would not be held until this coming October or~- <br />November; that Redwood City has been advanced in sports and <br />his primary purpose for appearing was to ask for use of a <br />playing field. He said soccer field is similar in size to <br />that of football and team would need field for games on eit- <br />her Saturdays or Sundays. Mr. Sys1ing stated that he would <br />want written statement that facilities were available and <br />that City was behind team before his going to the Los Ange- <br />les meeting. Mr. Morton explained that if the Ramblers were <br />successful that Redwood City would have the facilities but <br />,that more bleachers are still needed. Chairman Beals sugg- <br />ested that Mr. Sys1ing keep in contact with Mr. Morton and if <br />plans could be worked out, there could be the possibility of <br />going to the City Council perhaps at a study meeting asking <br />for support and with the blessings of the Commission. <br /> <br />REGULAR LEGISLATIVE MEETING: <br /> <br />REDWOOD SHORES <br /> <br />Chairman Beals announced that project Manager Howard Ullrich <br />would not be at tonight's meeting as he had very little new <br />information to report but that he would be at the September <br />meeting. <br /> <br />REDWOOD CITY RAMBLERS FOOTBALL TEAM - Bleachers <br /> <br /> <br />Chairman Beals stated that Redwood City does not have enough <br />bleachers for the activities that go on. He suggested writ- <br />ing the City Manager and Council asking that more money for <br />bleachers be allocated. It was again noted that only $1,300 <br />had been allowed this year for new bleachers which would seat <br />approximately 250 people. Commissioner Stuart stated that he <br />had thought we had everything we needed for use of the Ramb- <br />lets including bleachers when we had approved their coming <br />to Redwood City and that we should check things out more thor- <br />oughly before entering into any more deals of this sort. <br />Concerning a $10,000 item which had been included in budget <br />request for bleacher purchase, but deleted, Mrs. Thompson <br />was asked to check Council minutes on what had been included <br />in Council approval on, Ramblers coming to Redwood City. <br /> <br />, , <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />.-... - -- <br /> <br />, .. -, '" <br /> <br />,---.------'- <br /> <br />, . <br /> <br />, , ,:, '.
