VETERANS BOULEVARD BEAUTI~ICATION: Mr. Balzarini displayed strip <br />map of area and his plans for_planting 228 Redwood trees on both sides <br />of street - 50' apart. 'He estimated cost of 61 trees at $5.00 each <br />($1,140). On suggestion by Commissioner Whitmore that Boy Scouts or <br />other youth groups could help, Mr. Balzarini stated that this would <br />be possible provided consent releases-were signed by parents. <br /> <br />On motion of -Commissioner Stuart, seconded by Commissioner Thompson, <br />and passed, the Co,mmission voted to recommend that Veterans Blvd. <br />beautification p~ans as presented by Mr. Balzarini be submitted to <br />the Council for approval with the suggestion that perhaps the R. C. <br />Centennial Committee or some service club could support project by <br />helping provide funds and/or manpower. (3-9-66). <br /> <br />3 . HOOVER SCHOOL POOL: Mr. Morton presented plans and working <br />drawings (except those for mechanical equipment) of site utilization <br />plan dated 1-5-66, showing cement block fence as alternate for cyclone <br />fencing. On motion of Commissioner Knecht, seconded by Commissioner <br />Whitmore, and passed, it was voted to recommend to the Council that <br />the working drawings be approved, subject to committee satisfaction <br />on provision for lighting and diving equipment. (3-9-66). <br /> <br />4. CONSIDERATION.OF CONSULTANT, ETC: Mr. Morton said that- 57 <br />letters had been set out by City Manager Ullrich concerning framing <br />of a city wide commdttee to work in conjunction with Mr. Sterling <br />Winans and the forthcoming Master Plan for park and recr_eation fac- <br />ilities and that 24 had already accepted invitation to serve on the <br />commdttee: that it had been suggested that an initial meeting in- <br />cluding the committee and the Park and Recreation Commission be <br />held one week before Mr. Winans visit during Easter week, so that <br />committee would have understanding of how it would be functioning <br />with regard to the survey. <br /> <br />5. BAIRD PROPERTY REPORT - Commissioner Stuart report on meetings <br />of his committee and architect that only minor changes had been made <br />to preliminary plans except that the size of the portico had been <br />reduced in order to hold the building to size for planned usage, air <br />conditioning, etc. Chairman Beals asked Committee to pay particular <br />attention to outside finishes and design before recommending project <br />for approval. On motion of Commissioner Stuart, seconded by Comm- <br />issioner Knecht, and passed, Chairman Beals was authorized to advise <br />the City Manager that the Commission had approved preliminary plans <br />for the proposed Recreation Building at Community park and to urge <br />that he recommend that City Council instruct architect to proceed <br />with drawings. (ARB 3-366). <br /> <br />6.
