<br />,,106 <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Mr. Sipes also said he had met with the State Wild Life -and Con- <br />servation Board (a 3 man board) yesterday re State help on the' <br />fishing pier project: that board recommends pier instead of float <br />(pier estimated cost-$5,000: board would be more interested if <br />regional in concept; if plans had been available board would <br />probably have been more enthusiastic. Mr. Sipes said that Mr. <br />MOrton had someone in mind to draw set of plans but should this <br />not be possible he was authorized by the Commission to seek help <br />through the City Manager from the Engineering Dept. Mr. Sipes <br />also said that he would acquire pictures and evidence of interest <br />to support need' for fishing pier. He commended Councilwoman Hend- <br />erson on her presentation toehe State Board. Mrs. Thompson sugg- <br />ested not pushing for State participation and try to get the pro- <br />ject done locally, Chairman Beals noting the $1,000 offer from <br />Kiwanis and said perhaps we could get other service club support, <br />public subscription or possible help from PCA. Chairman Beals <br />thanked- Mr. Sipes for his interest and follow through. <br /> <br />Commissioner Goodinq: Complimented Park Department for improved <br />look and re-design and planting at service club sign area. Mrs. <br />Gooding suggested a tree planting project along Harbor Blvd. all <br />the way to the Port. <br /> <br />Commissioner Whitmore: Suggested advisability of meeting with <br />Council in a study session to discuss Commission views concern- <br />ing Community Park creek. Chairman Beals asked that letter be <br />written to City Manager concerning the meeting, with Jim Knecht, <br />Doris Thompson and himself representing the Commission. (Letter <br />not written-DCT..Commissioners Knecht, Sipes and Thompson attend- <br />ed Council meeting on 10/24/66 when matter was acted upon)~ <br /> <br />Mr. Whitmore commented on poor condition of Stafford Park. Mr. <br />Yoshida advised that watering was being done at night and that <br />part of the problem was that kids have been turning off the <br />sprinklers and throwing the sprinkler heads in the street. <br /> <br />Commissioner Knecht: Complimented Park~and Recreation Depart- <br />ments on meeting together for coordinating efforts. <br /> <br />Commissioner Thompson: Noted her tour of city parks and planted <br />areas listing anumber of areas that needed attention including <br />sign repairs. Chairman Beals asked Mrs. Thompson to give the <br />list to the Park Department including the recommendation that we <br />discontinue getting the raised 1etter--type park sign and instead <br />secure the carved or indented type sign. (10-27-661 <br /> <br />~ommissioner Sipes: suggested that tree spraying (Modesto Ash, <br /> <br />etc.) be done earlier this coming year.
