PARK SUPERINTENDENT - Monthly report dated Jan. 31, 1967, of activities over and above usual Park Department activities. Chairman Beals congratulated Secretary Doris Thompson for being chosen the ItCitizen of the Yearn. Mrs. Thompson was accorded a standing tribute by those present. PERSONAL APPEARANCES: 1. RE RECREA TI ON ELEMENT TO THE GENERAL PLAN: Mr. ~en Schroeter, Planning Director, at the request of Chair- man Beals, presented recommendations for the "Recreation Ele- ment ~o the General Plan which he had previously presented to the Planning Commission. at its phblic hearings. Mr. Schroeter's recommendations were from studies made from information contained in the Winans Report (which included recommendations-f rom the IICitizens Committees II) and IIPart H of the proposed General Plan of the Redwood Shores area", plus broadened, concise, and enhancing recommendations for practi~al application of norms and goals, open space de- ficiencies, recommendations, partial inventory of sp~cific project possibilities and plan implementation, etc., for the entire City-both lIolderll Redwood City and the presently un- developed Redwood Shores portion. Mr. Schroeter used m~ps and plans to illustrate his presentation. ~ Chairman Beals and the Commissioners complimented Mr. Sch- roeter on his fine development of recommendations for liThe Recreation Element of the General Plann both on his written report (all Commissioners had received copies) and his per- sonal presentation at tonights meeting,. Commissioners did express concern over timing of receipt of the report and of being uninformed over the 45 day time limit and suggested that there could be better liasison between the Planning Commission and the Park and Recreation Commission. No action was taken by the Commission on the approval of the "Recreation Element of the General Planfl as Chairman Beals explained the Commission wished to have a meeting with the UCitizens Committeesll-after the above information was avail- able to them, including maps before acting on it. Chairman Beals asked when the report would be' ready (about ten days) so that a meeting could be called with the IICitizens Comm- ittees".
