Roussakis, Asst. to the Executive Vice-pres-
ident of the California Professional Soccer Club, Inc., appeared
in person to supplement his request by letter to use Griffin
Field as atraining field as follows: Beginning Feb.. 15 through
August 31st, use of the field for two hours each morning and two
hours each afternoon, Mondays through Fridays. Mr. Roussakis
said he was hopeful that his team could use the Forty-Niner
building1s shower facilities, but if not, this would not effect
his request to use Griffin Field; that field is of suitable size
with excellent turf; that good weather in RC and availability of
nearby apartments for housing players (20) was important: that
Club would build portable goal posts so as not to interfere with
other activities at the field during non-practice hours: that
they would be willing to change practice schedules occasionally
to accommodate any special events which the City may wish to
schedule: that Club will play under the name of California
Clippers and its home base will be the Oakland Coliseum: that
they will playa 32-game schedule beginning April 16, 1967; that
other franchises in the league are: New York, Atlanta, Pittsburgh,
St. Louis, Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, Baltimore and Philadel-
phia: that League has a long-term contract with CBS for TV cover-
age of games: and that Mr. Toby Hilliard and Mr. Joe OINei11,
both of Texas, are the principal backers.

Mr. Morton said there would be no conflict with recreation pro-
grams and that soccer is not nearly as hard on a field as is
football. Mr. Balzarini said watering would not interfere, as
watering is done at night, and that other maintenance arrange-
ments can be worked out.

On MOTION of Bob Whitmore, seconded by Jim Knecht, it was voted
to recommend to the City Council that permission to use Griffin
Field as a training field be granted to the California Profess-
ional Soccer Club, Inc., (California Clippers II), for two hours
each morning and two hours each afternoon, Mondays through Fri-
days, during the period beginning February 15, 1967, and ending
August 31, 1967, providing satisfactory agreements can be 'worked
out with the soccer club by the Director of Re~reation and PDark
Superintendent and the City.
