Commissioner Knecht <br />reported that Mr. Whitmore had ~on the golf tournament. <br /> <br /> <br />, , <br /> <br />~ ~ <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER SIPES told of first seeing the Marina 9 years ago <br />when it had just been dredged and piles of dirt were everywhere <br />and there was the old yacht club building and noting that the <br />Marina had come a long way in 9 years with perhaps the most <br />spectacular progress being made during the last year with the <br />paved parking area, lighting, harbormaster building, old yacht <br />club torn down, and the prize winning landscaping job done by <br />our own people at a cost of only $12,000 and could have cost <br />three times that much under private contract; he reported that <br />the fishing pier project is moving along - Hal Coehlo, Art <br />Balsamo, Larry Brian and himself had conferred about the pier <br />and that Mr. Brian, civil engineer was finishing up the plans; <br />various ways thought of for getting the fishing pier done and <br />were once turned down. by the State; last month Recreation Dir- <br />ector Morton wrote Senator Dolwig for additional help on the <br />fishing pier - III think the fishing pier is near. As an after <br />school recreation this is an inexpensive way to get kids off the <br />streets". Mr. Sipes commended the Council Marina Committee and <br />the Commission for accomplishing so much. <br /> <br />City Manager Ullrich said he had been informed the fishing pier <br />plans would soon be completed and it has been recommended by <br />staff that the necessary amount be funded to make the fishing <br />pier a reality during the coming year. Commissioner Beals on <br />his question regarding funds was told that the $2,500 sum in <br />the capital outlay current budget but the estimate may raise <br />the cost of the pier to $3,000-$3,500 for the project. Mr. <br />Beals suggested that other service clubs be contacted to make <br />up the difference. <br />
