<br />188 <br /> <br />asked re preparing of specifications and improving of Andrew <br />Spinas playground area. <br /> <br />Mr. Ullrich stated $130,900 had been determined for landscaping <br />-of Ralston Parkway instead of the previously announced figure, but <br />that ultimate maintenance costs had not been determined: Mrs.Thomp- <br />son advised that rose garden dedication was tentatively set for <br />IIfirst bloom" probably the first part: of May: Mr. Bill Paulson <br />saidathat Fun-After-Fifty group is still showing interest in pro- <br />viding.funds for the gazebo but prefer to wait until it is known <br />how the garden is to be received by the ,public: Mr. Ullrich told <br />that matching funds application had been denied, included in which <br />was the Canyon Road property, for the reason that funds for the <br />Federal program have been exhaused, and that city was so far down <br />on the priority list that in fairness the City was advised not to <br />expect Federal assistance. Mr. Ullrich said other alternatives <br />were being explored, such as assistance from the County on a 50-50 <br />basis. Mr. Ullrich stated that City had asked that the matching <br />funds (Federal program) aid program keep our application on file <br />in case funds do become available at a later date. Mr. Ullrich <br />advised re Council item pertaining to Spinas Playground that staff <br />had recommended two courts (tennis courts) and that there wasn't <br />sufficient ground for them and that negotiations were in progress <br />to arrange for land use so two could be constructed. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER THOMPSON asked that the Rose Garden dedication pro- <br />gram be'put on the agenda for April and suggested the name for <br />it as liThe Catherine Brennan Rose Garden", both the $100 and the <br />$1,000 donations being made in Mrs. Brennans memory. <br /> <br />CHAIRMAN WHITMORE re Community Park creek asked Mr. Ullrich why <br />boxing is necessary as opposed to corrugated piping for covering <br />of the creek. Mr. Ullrich advised that in order to get flow <br />capacity, wide or double flow box is within a few thousands of <br />dollars of the cost of the piping needed to get grade, as this <br />creek is subject to a certain volume of tidal action. <br /> <br />PARK FOREMAN YOSHIDA told that the CPRS conference was quite <br />recreation oriented - Sea World, Mission Bay, Balboa Park, etc. <br />are for all ages. <br /> <br />RECREATION SUPERVISOR PAULSON said that 95% of day camp partici- <br />pation is from west side of El Camino and that he had asked the <br />Sunrise Lions ClUb to provide $180 for transportation from Monroe, <br />Washington, Edison, Hoover, etc. schools in order to involve this <br />side of the community in day camp activities. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
