<br />r192 <br /> <br />r <br />r <br />¡ - <br />! <br />¡ <br />~ <br />¡ <br />, <br /> <br />that a free swim period each week could be arranged for young- <br />, ster s on Wednes"åay a fternoons from 1. to 4 ~ p~. m. <br /> <br />Commissioner Stuart moved that-we recommend to Council that based <br />on-recommendation of the Recreation Dept. the 1968 swim rates <br />remain the same and a special summer program of free swims for <br />all youngsters to the age of 14 be instituted on Wednesday aft- <br />ernoons from 1 to 4 p.m., adults not to be admitted without fee, <br />seconded by Commissioner Thompson and passed, Commissioner <br />- Gooding voting no. <br /> <br /> <br />(Mr. Ullrich left meeting at 8:45 p.m.) <br /> <br />2 - DEDICATION OF ROSE GARDEN AND RECOMMENDATION FOR NAMING- <br />Dor is Thompson: <br /> <br />cømmissioner Thompson moved to recommend to Council that ded- <br />ication ceremonies for the Rose Garden be held, on or about May <br />10 or 11 and~that a plaque be installed naming the garden liThe <br />Catherine Brennan Rose Garden"., seconded by Commissioner Knecht, <br />and passed. <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson gave the following reasons for recommending of the <br />name of liThe Catherine Brennan Rose Garden", Mrs. Brennan had <br />been a Park & Recreation commissioner for-twelve years prior to <br />1964 during which time she had urged the planting of a rose gar- <br />den at Community Park, and the first general chairman of the <br />Annual Flower and Art Show, which is co-sponsored by the R.C. <br />Women's Club (of which she had been a member for nearly twenty <br />years) and the Park Dept., when it started in 1960, the forth- <br />coming show being the 9th (May 18-19,1968); she had been active <br />in many civic affairs in addition to being a dedicated commiss- <br />ioner and in whose memory $1,100 had been contributed in 1967 <br />towards a rose garden which seemingly was the impetus needed <br />to get the rose garden planted -$100 was contributed by the <br />Business and Professional Women's Club and $1,000, foom acc- <br />ruals from eight years of shows, by the Annual Spring Flower-and <br />Art Show Committee.
