and that project would be outstanding. To Commissioner stuart's
question on maintenance cost, Mr. Ullrich said matter would be
discussed at Budget Review Committee sessions with Park Dept.,
that city is concerned with it and'all costs for recreation,
parks, fire, etc. but that area has been contributing to city
"services for some time without receiving any benefits and the
project as proposed is thought to require minimum maintenance
and as soon as information is available that we would be advised.
1 ~ SWIM POOL RATES (Community Park and Hoover)-Evaluation for
possible lowering of 209 rate - item referred by Council for con-
sideration by Commission: City Manager Howard Ullrich - Recrea-
tion DirectorAlfred~Morton: - '

Mr. Ullrich explained that Council.had suggested that swim rates
be evaluated with an idea of lowering them, particularly in the
Hoover pool area, after reviewing rates from adjoining cities.

Mr. Morton said that swimming pool rates from the adjoining cit-
ies of Burlingame, Menlo Park, Mt. View, Palo, Ravenswood, San
Bruno, Santa Clara, 'San Mateo, Sunnyvale, and the high schools of
Sequoia, Carlmont, Woodside, San Carlos, Menlo-Atherton and Rav-
enswood had been researched by Ginger MacDougall of the Recreation
Dept. and he felt our rates not out of line but would favor cutt-
ing admission to lOç for children under 12. Mr. Morton said that
~ur rates had remained the sarne since their start - 20ç-child,
30ç~teens, 40ç-adults--(.IO swims-$1.40, 2.50, 3.50, respective-
ly); that only increase had been for instructional swim, which
had been raised from $2.50 to $3, for city residents-(for non-
residents, this fee is $5)~ that there is no differential between
residents or non-residents on regular swim fees: that residence
cards are costly to issue and~maintain and he would not recommend:
