<br />2,79 <br /> <br />Commissioner Thompson suggested that department check the wash- <br />ing of small boats on the landscaped lawn area at the Marina. <br /> <br />Park Department: <br /> <br />June report received at meeting. <br /> <br />- - <br /> <br /> <br />Department complimented on progress of development of Thorn <br />peoperty. <br /> <br />8 -ROUNDTABLE - Discussion'on old or new business by Commiss- <br />ioners, Dir. of Recreation, Park Supt: <br /> <br />Commissioner Thompson complimented departments on completion <br />of the tennis courts at 2nd and Bay and on the fishing in- <br />struction at the Marina; told of recreation facilities at Waco, <br />Texas - 600 acre park along the Brazos river; new project on <br />the river across from the above Cameron Park which will provide <br />for small boats, swimming, etc.: a Lions park project devel- <br />oped by the Lions ClUb of Waco which includes playground and <br />amt:tsement type facilities on at least a block long and wide <br />site; a memorial and historical type project honoring the <br />Texas Rangers which includes facilities for camping, barbecues, <br />picnics, etc. Mrs. Thompson said that the antonomy of the park <br />and recreation departments were not as lIautonomous" as she had <br />understood: that ~~aco, with approx. 110, 000 population, ,is <br />undergoing a massive redevelopment program in its downtown <br />section under the model cities program and federal funds. <br /> <br /> <br />mÐfiiX <br /> <br />!}!rs. 'Thompson advised that I,'ire. Joan- Johnson, our stenographer <br />for the past year, would not be with the commission after to- <br />night's meeting as she was resigning because of other family <br />committments. Johnson for her <br />assistance during the last year. <br /> <br />Co~~issioner ~IDrgan invited commissioners to the ground <br />bre~cing ceremonies of her church, 134 Hemlock Street, on <br />July 13th at 4 p.m. - £~.
