25

MARINA RESTAURANT FACILITY - Mr. Ullrich advised the commission
that Dennis Woodman, of the Sequoia Yacht Club, told the Council
that the Club will oppose installation of the facility at the
proposed location. It was reported that the Club indicated that
it would create a hazard for sail boats coming around the corner
and that building would restrict wind and as a result boaters
would not have proper control. Mr. Ullrich said the restaurant

0 -

site is the same one that the Sequoia Yacht Club group had hoped
to have their building on - but that city had been saving it for
a revenue prod uct ing acti vi ty i 'tha t a grea t deal of money had

- ,

been spent at the Marina before city learned that they did not

- .

"own the water", it being owned by Leslie, and without Leslie's
approval to city to use the area, there would be no access to
the marinaadd docking facilities; that city lease agreement with
Sequoia Yacht ~lub provides for land rental of $385 per year-
for land identical in size as that proposed for use by the res-
taurant facility at a basic land rental of $10,000 per year,
that a condition in the Yacht Club lease provides that their
building must be made available to the public for not less than
200 days a year (rentals); that city is assembling information

, &

and material for presentation to BCDC on February 19th.

Mr. Ullrich said restaurant facility will be on leased land of
10,000 sq. ft.1 will have a seating cap~city of 270; and a mini-
mum construction value of $600,000; 35% of building will be on

- .

land and balance on 53 piles, 1,9 of which are subject to tidal
water, 16 on dry land, and balance of pilings are in and out of
water depending on tidal range; that location of facility is to

- - ,

provide physical views from the restaurant - over boat docking,
to salt pile, and towards the Port; facility has a potential
revenue to the city of around $25,000 a year - income from the
land lease portion ($10,000) must be used at Marina for further
developments, balance of income could be used for other places;
that the brick wall and some of the aggregate area of the land-

.. ~

scaping installed several years ago would have to be removed;
that facility would have non-exlusive parking rights-on a first
come, first serve basis - in parking sites at the Marina - with
city guaranteeing that there would be no less than a total of
250 of these non-exclusive spaces in the total Marina area. Mr.
Ullrich showed commission the site plan for the restaurant facility.

Mr. U1lr,ich said he thought that u1 timate1y the Stanford Crew
facility would be moved to Shores and would use inland controlled
waterways, near bridge, which' would provide a 3,000 meter course
on waterway without any wind probl~ms, without any boat problems,
and with spectator areas on both sides of waterway.

4 - IICOMMUNITY PARKII DESIGNATE FOR STEINBERGER SUBDIVISION, SHORES:
Commissioner Thompson said a IICommunity Park" designation, 6.9
ac. area, in the Steinberger planning area was incorrect. no
communtiy park should be designated unless it contains between
25-50 acres.

,_,.,_n__,____,_n_- - ----.. _--___n'_....' -".. -- --.. ,--.... - - ,- -
-"', ' .

'---....-_'........_m..'- ,

-..-,O..__&...--n&__.._..---.... -------"',- ..
