Other considerations that caused this
trail route to be-adopted were that President Nixon recommended to
Congress a legislation of parks and this would be funded from the
- .1971-72 fiscal year. Mr. Brook felt that the~HUD representatives
would put this under their criteria of consideration under the land
and water conservation fund, and that they~specifically recommended
the establishment of a park that would fit this possibility.

Relative to minimum standards that would be set up would be a standard
of 8 foot trails; 4 foot, asphalted¡ and 4, foot, a trail for riding~
horses, feeling that the horses would be out eventually and that this
would be a hiking and bike trail.'

Mr. Brook is visiting each of the three governmental agencies, that is
Redwood City, San Carlos, and San Mateo~, County; and has the backing of
the Sierra'Club,- portola Valley area, and the Green Hills subcommittees.

. .

They endorse these plans.

There was considerable discussion on why a separate undercrossing be
started and that Mr~ Brook stated that the State of California would
have to come up with at least $24,000 for this trail because they were
cutting an existingtrail. There was some discussion relative to the
fact that there was no trail. Mr. Brook stated ,that this ~as a great

..,.-... ,........-......_..._n..,__--.....___n--.__--n_n...."""--.." '.---' '-----"""""""'---'--"------.' ..---..-..-..
