Copy of Community Progress Report - December 1971 from City Manager <br /> <br />AGENDA <br /> <br />1. BUDGET COMMITTEE - Mr . Schenck pres ented the Camnis s ioners with copies of the <br />Capital Outlay Prioi~ies for the next 5 years stating that such priorities are <br />subject to change. e stat,ed that staff agreed that acquiring the land needed for <br />proposedCanyo~ Road Park is No.1 priority, and proceded to discuss each item. <br />It was noted that the Park Superintendent had included in his budget the need of <br />a Park Planner as the only mast~r plan now in operation is for Community Park. <br />Should a Park Planner be hired, the éost of master p1~ for Canyon Road Park, <br />Union Cemetery, and Ea.s ter Bowl amounting to over $35, 000 could be . deleted fran <br />the budget. It was emphasixed by members of the Commis s ion that in the pas t , the <br />need of a Park Planner in the Planning ~Department had geeD ,stressed. -Extensive <br />inquires were made by each Cammis s ioner and the Blldget Priority Sub- Canmi t tee was <br />thanked for doing an outs tanding job planning forthe next 5 years. A lIlotion ~ <br />was made.}, by Mr. ~es to approve the recommendations as amended for 1972-76, <br />seconded by Mrs. Terrill and pas sed. . <br /> <br />. "" < . <br /> <br />. , <br />~ <br /> <br />I' <br /> <br />Mrí; Schenck reported on a field trip to Redwood Shores reviewing the land <br />designated as Park land. Accanp~ing him were Bill Paulson, Chairman Thompson, <br />Frank Guida, and Sylvester Duplessis. Mr. William Rogers of ~slie Salt con- <br />ducted the tour and described future ,parks planned for Redwood Shores. It was <br />expressed that all commissioners should have a . similar tour, and ~. Schenck <br />offered to arrange with Mr. Rogers for another tour in the near fu. ture . <br /> <br />2. MINI PABKS - Mr. Knecht asked that discussion be continued to February meeting <br /> <br />- <br />. .. <br /> <br />3. HERITAGE TREES - Mrs . Terrill reported tha t the ordinanc~ haJ;l reached a final <br />draft and had been advised by Mr. Westphal, ZOning Director' that he bad <br />forwarded it to the City Attorneys of'tice tor their approval.. Hope~ the <br />ordiance w:tJJ. be ready for the Commissioners to study before the February meeting. <br /> <br />4. OOMMUNITY PARK: - Chairman Thanpson reported that the Creek Culverting <br />project is moving aling satisfactorily. <br /> <br />Mr. Guida repórted that the caboose project is moving toward. canpletion and all <br />departments are working together to produce an attractive project. He did <br />state that expenses had amounted to more than had' been anticipated. Mr8. Terrill <br />expressed her interest~ in the total figure when Pl'oject is canpleted. Mr. Guida <br />offered to report total expenses at February meeting. Upon canpletion, it - <br />was hoped that publici tý be given informing the public of total background on the <br />project. <br /> <br />Mr. Sclmnck reminded the Camnission of the recent passing of Recreation Director, <br />Red Morton and that Chairman Thompson and he felt that the most appropriate act <br />for the Commis sion was to rec cmmend to the Ci ty Cooncil that the COmmunity Park <br />be renamed the Red Morton Community Park. The Cbmmiss ion was unanimous. <br />A motion was then made by Mr. Schenck to recommend to the City Council the <br />renaming of CoDDlluni ty Park to the Red Morton COmm1mi ty Park, seconded by Mr. <br />,~echt and carried. Mr. Paulson expressed his Qoncern about the many suggestions <br />and proposals being made by various organizations within the cormnunity and it <br />was decided that a sub-committee be formed fran members of ~the Commission to <br />sWdy-.&l1 suggestions and proposals. <br /> <br /> <br />---~-~. <br />
