Vivian thanked the Council Members for their attendance and <br /> support at the recent community meeting that exhibited a lot of good will from the <br /> residents and representatives from the County. She acknowledged Chief <br /> Bolanos' proactive approach stating that sometimes people ask about <br /> prevention, and stated that it is prevention in keeping people from hurting each <br /> other and innocent victims. She also thanked Chief Bolanos, Mayor Ira and <br /> Council Member Hartnett for advocating for the gang suppression task force <br /> because it is a very important component. She further stated that she looks <br /> forward to a countywide task force. <br /> City Manager Everett thanked Ms. Diaz-C. Vivian for hosting the meeting of <br /> approximately 150-200 parents, concerned citizens and youth. He stated that <br /> based on the Council's community building focus, he has directed that atl those <br /> in attendance be updated on Council action; that PCRC will be utilized and the <br /> meeting attendees will be divided into three geographic areas; meetings will <br /> occur at a more regional level; then those areas will come together and share <br /> ideas. In addition, a plan is being composed for use of existing resources in <br /> Code Enforcement to put more effort into enforcement with the assistance of the <br /> community. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> M/S Foust/Bain to adopt the recommendation of the City Council ad hoc task <br /> force on gangs, composed of Mayor Ira and Council Member Hartnett to allocate <br /> funds to hire two (2) Police Officer positions and no more than $200,000.00 for <br /> Police Officer overtime for gang suppression operations. The motion passed by <br /> a unanimous voice vote. MINUTE ORDER 05-189 <br /> B. San Mateo County Environmental/Transportation Pilot Program Funding <br /> Financial Services Director Ponty stated that he is seeking policy direction on <br /> how to use the approximately $100,000. expected this fiscal year from the $4.00 <br /> per registered vehicle fee levied as of July 1, 2005 in San Mateo County. The <br /> purpose of the fee levied by C/CAG is to provide funding for traffic management <br /> and storm water pollution management programs in the County. He further <br /> explained the parameters for utilizing the funds. <br /> Council made comments and asked various questions. Consideration to apply <br /> future funds toward shuttles and street sweeping was mentioned; application <br /> toward current programs was encouraged rather than toward new programs; and <br /> support for the signage and lighting in the downtown was expressed. <br /> JOINT MEETING September 12, 2005 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY PAGE 8 <br />
