218

Chairman Schenck congratulated the Department on the number of articles which have
been appearing in the Redwood City Tribune informing citizens of all the various func-
tions taking place throughout the City which are sponsored or originated by the Parks
& Recreation Department.

Commissioner Weintraub moved to accept the monthly reports, seconded by Commissioner
Knecht; carried.

ROUND TABLE

Chairman Schenck stated only those items in which each Commissioner states to the
Secretary, "I would like to have this item in the minutes," will be taken down by the
Secretary. Also, if there are items which the Commission requests the staff to handle,
these should also be in the minutes.

The Director informed the Commission of several meetings which had been held with the
Parks & Recreation Administrator of San Mateo County relative to the proposed state
park bond issue of 1974. This proposed bond issue will provide funds for local Parks
& Recreation facilities which are to be administered through the San Mateo County
Department Park & Recreation. Efforts are underway to arrive at a consensus for the
distribution of these funds which would lead to a policy position that hopefully would
be acceptable to the communities in San Mateo County. Basically, this policy would
provide a percentage of the funds available to be dispersed to each community based
upon population. County-wide priorities would then be established which would make it
possible for conununities to combine their efforts, if they so desire, as well a's enter
into joint programs with the County. This concept is still in the initial steps;
however, it is felt that in the near future a concept will be adopted and forwarded
to each community for formal consideration. This matter will be continually reviewed
and reported as developments occur.

The League of Cities Convention was discussed which will be held in October 1973.
The Co~ission will discuss the program when it is received so as to be able to schedule
the Commissioners interested in attending.

The California Association of Parks & Recreation Boards and Conunissions membership
application has been received. This will be executed. The Department will request
all information be mailed to the office and the office will mail to each Conunissioner's
home. This will insure that each Conunissioner will recieve his information.

As there was no further business, the meeting" was adjourned at 10:35 p.m.

.',
