<br /> <br />217 <br /> <br />Community Park Committee - Chairman Guida was not present and it was requested <br />that this report be held over until Chairman Guida could report. The Commissioners <br />on this committee talked briefly about the Community Park meeting. At the first <br />meeting, they discussed ramifications of the new budget and talked about alternatives <br />for construction of Phase 2 and 3. They also discussed Phase 1 and what was taking <br />place. Their next meeting is scheduled for August 29. In the interim, data will be <br />prepared for discussion at the August meeting. Phase 1 construction is still con- <br />fined to the same area. At the end of Phase 1, all automobile access into the park <br />will be closed off for the protection of the new construction as well as the park <br />patrons. <br /> <br />Open Space Committee - Chairman Knecht gave the report. <br /> <br />The neighborhood parks were mentioned. Priorities were set as follows: <br /> <br />a. Initiate review of the Park & Recreation Element of the General Plan. <br />b. Priority consideration will be given to the neighborhood park concept. Initial <br />attention of this priority will be directed to the Middle field neighborhood <br />area boardered by Woodside Expressway, Broadway and Main Street; the Palm neigh~ <br />borhood area; the Oakwood neighborhood area; and the Friendly Acres neigh- <br />borhood. Current thinking is to concentrate study priorities in the eastern <br />section of Redwood City. <br /> <br />At the next meeting the committee will tour and review Redwood Shores. Committee <br />members are also represented on the Waterfront Committee. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - A$enda Discussion - Adjourned Join~ Meeting With City Council in August <br /> <br />Chairman Schenck spoke with Mayor Keckley and found the Council could meet with the <br />Commission on August 18 at 9:00 a.m. (Saturday). Apparently there had been some con- <br />fusion as to the Council meeting on this date but it now appeared possible. Chairman <br />Schenck asked what the Commission would like to have on the agenda which they could <br />discuss jointly with the Council. It was determined that the Commission would discuss <br />with the Council the Commission's new committee structure and priorities. Charts will <br />be prepared. The Park & Recreation Commission committee chart will be revised with the <br />priorities and mailed in advance of the meeting to the City Council for their reaction <br />and/or input. The meeting will probably be from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with a <br />Commission field trip scheduled for the afternoon. The Commission will have their reg- <br />ular ~eeting August 8, 1973 and will then adjourn the meeting to Saturday, August 18. <br />Public notice will be made of the joint meeting. <br /> <br />REPORTS <br /> <br />ITEM I - GAP Students <br /> <br />Chairman Schenck requested this be carried over until the September meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />ITEM 2£ - M°!1thly R~~rts, <br /> <br />Tennis lighting at Spinas Park has been delayed because the contractor is having trouble <br />getting materials. <br /> <br />The sports camp was discussed.
