Commissioner Rollins suggested having signs painted on the trash cans which would read,
"Keep Your City Clean." Mr. Balzarini mentioned that this was tried for a few years
and did not seem to be effective. Commissioner Weintraub felt signs would be offensive
and that too many signs tend to overemphasize and become unsightly. Mr. Weeks mentioned
there would be a redesign of signs, trash containers~and disposal areas as a method of
keeping the area clean and beautiful--a very subtle but strong hint to the public.

Commissioner Weintraub mentioned the California Parks ~ Recreation Magazine, page 8,
which discussed AB 1367. This bill attempts to change or reduce the park dedication
limits of a city and attempts to put limits on a community's maximum amount of park
land obtainable by this method. Mr. Weeks suggested contacting legislators if the Com-
mission so desired. Commissioner Weintraub mentioned she would personally like to see
the Commission write a letter opposing the changing of this Bill. It was decided to
carry this over for an agenda item for the December meeting. The staff was requested
to obtain copies of the original act (Quinby Act) for each Commissioner.

Commissioner Knecht reported that the Sub-Committee for the Red Morton Memorial, to be
located in Community Park, met November 7 to reevaluate the proposed location of the
memorial. Upon touring the park and considering the new construct "on in the park,
it was felt that consideration should be given to locale a memorial in one of the ten
foot diameter planters which is located in the center of the park and in the vicinity
of the baseball diamonds. The Committee felt that perhaps a different des~ign36tþer --,
than1' a shelter type memorial be considered. It was the Committee's cone lùi1õã-~~ "- ~ ". .
that the Red Morton Memorial design and construction be considered a high priority
item and be considered as a ~iority item in the second phase of construction. Com-
missioner Guida suggested enlarging the Sub-Committee to include two non-Commission
members, one from the Civic Cultural Commission and a private citizen. This will be
done and the Committee will have an opportunity to talk with the consultant land-
scape architect as plans are being formulated for the second phase of construction.

Commissioner Knecht suggested the bacci ball courts be painted and renovated as soon as
possible. He requested staff to report on the possibilities of renovation.

Commissioner Guida requested the status of the Dickey Street abandonment. Mr. Weeks
mentioned that he had requested Public Works Department to supply information on this.
Commissioner Guida requested a progress report be made at the December meeting.

Mr. Weeks mentioned that he will be attending a meeting on the proposed 1974 State
Park Bond Issue. Redwood City will be required to present priorities for use of monies
allocated to local agencies if the bond issue is successful. The Grant monies will
be allocated through the County on the basis of population. It was decided that this
matter would be reviewed by the Open Space Committee. Upon discussing needs, it was
the concensus of the Commission that bond issued monies be used for park acquisition
in that it was felt that development could be handled by Capital Improvement funds.
