The letter was turned over to the Open Space Committee for a
report. Commissioner Schenck requested making Mr. DeWit knowledgable
of the Open Space Committee meetings.

AGENDA

AGENDA ITEM 1 - Review of P~an for Proposed Red Morton Memorial

Commissioner Schenck called attention to the Minutes of the meeting on page 8.
The Community Park Committee has had two meetings since the last Commission
meeting. The first meeting the Committee toured the park and a site was
suggested for the Red Morton Memorial. Also discussed was phase two. The
major concern with regard to the park is that it is so segmented and has so
many different names (i.e., Bechet Field, McGarvey Field, etc.). The Committee
suggested calling the park Red Morton Community Park and having a small plaque
at each field location with some interesting information about the person the
field was named after. Commissioner Schenck requested input from the Commission.

Commissioner Weintraub felt it was a good idea and not political. Chairman
Guida had reservations because the fields were named for a reason and his
reservations will be met if a plaque is placed for each field.

Commissioner Schenck mentioned that after phase two, a dedication of the entire
park should be made. Commissioner Schenck also showed a model of the Red Morton
Memorial being proposed. Red MOrton was the first director of Recreation in
Redwood City. Chairman Guida stated he was pleased with the plans for the
memorial.

Commissioner Weintraub asked what provision for color around the memorial had
been made. Mr. Weeks stated the details of the color scheme have not been
worked out yet but that the area will be landscaped.

The memorial was discussed briefly. It is to be a seating area. Commissioner
Rollins felt the architect did an excellent job making the Commission's ideas
visual. Commissioner Weintraub was concerned about the surface appearance and
Mr. Weeks indicated the area would be treated for aesthetic effect.

,

~y-____n______-~--' ---------- --------- ____.n______--------"-.-.-.. - --".,--, _._---~._-----~-_.._--~--_...._,'.,-,'- ",_.,-,-,._-----

-- ...- -,- ,,-"-~. - -----,- ---
r

---.___-"n ~_.~_.-
