, 32'

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION:

Commissioner Schenck moved, seconded by Commissioner Rollins,
that the Minutes be approved with the following corrections:

Page 2, paragraph 6, should read:

"...and trying to interpret the Commission with regard to the.
Minutes."

"She requested staff to secure a copy of that report..."

Page 7, Round Table, first sentence should read:

The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.

CORRESPONDENCE

1.

Bay Area Park & Recreation Commissioners Council. Quarterly dinner meeting
announced by Chairman Guida which is to be held July 27,1974.

2.

Letter from Foothill Little League was read by Chairman Guida. This con-
cerned the possible acquisition of the ball field at Franklin School if
the school is closed down. The Director will respond to the letter.

Mr. Weeks indicated that the Department is fully anticipating the continued
use of the property at the school in programming and would continue to
make it available as in the past, until such time as the School District
would indicate that (I) ." it is no longer available, or (2-). that the
Department is no longer able to maintain the property. Even if the Depart-
ment is unable to maintain the property under the terms of the present
agreement, this does not necessarily preclude its continued use of the
property. Mr. Weeks stated that he would hope the School District would
allow the Department the continued use of the property, in which case
Little League, as a part of the program, could also continue to use it.

Commissioner Schenck was interested in knowing if the Commission had a
firm philosophy with regard to developing existing land or if new land
would still be purchased.

Mr. Weeks indicated that both the Budget and Open Space Committees had
adopted a balanced approach with regard to developing existing land and
purchasing new land in order to remain flexibly with regard to newoppor-
tunities which may arise. Mr. Weeks stated that, hopefully, the Depart-
ment could continue to add to the system if and when funds were available,
each item being considered on its own merit, but also hopefully continue
with the development of existing land.

Chairman Guida stated that the Commission did have priorities and definite
goals, but he did not feel this should blind the Commission to any oppor-
tunities or unforeseen circumstances that might arise in the meantime.
He felt the Commission should be flexible enough to take advantage of
opportunities.
