Mr. Weeks stated that <br />additional neighborhood meetings would be called aB the various phases <br />were approached in order to receive as much citizen input as possible. <br /> <br />¡;", <br /> <br />t' <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Schlesinger was concerned about the grading in the area sub- <br />ject to mud slides but Mr. Weeks did not see any need for grading in that <br />particular area. <br /> <br />Chairperson Weintraub commented to Mr. Balzarini that the park areas <br />looked very nice. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />Commissioner Pound moved to accept the monthly reports, seconded <br />by Commissioner Rollins. <br /> <br />, ,J <br />. <br /> <br />The motion carr~d unanimously by voice vote. <br /> <br />REPORT ITEM 3 - Committee Schedulin¡ <br /> <br />Chairperson Weintraub suggested that the committee meetings be scheduled as <br />necessary by telephone rather than taking the time to do so at the Commission <br />meeting. It was suggested that staff call and notify each member of the meet- <br />ings as they are called. It was also requested that each member call the Staff <br />Secretary if they are unable to attend a meeting. The Staff Secretary will <br />then notify the Chairperson in order that she may fill that vacancy if possible. <br />It was suggested that Item 3 (Committee Scheduling) be left on the Agenda sheet. <br /> <br />MATTERS FROM THE AUDIENCE <br /> <br />Mr. Weeks introduced Mr. Warren Mitchell, Deputy Director of Operations, Water <br />Department. Mr. Mitchell advised the Commission that the bi-centennial cele- <br />bration for Redwood City will be held July 4,1976, and brought the Commission <br />up-to-date with the latest thoughts and ideas suggested for the celebration <br />which included fireworks, a parade, afternoon activities at Sequoia High School, <br />etc. Mr. Mitchell requested the Commission to give some thought as to how <br />they might like this event celebrated. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commissioner Schenck did not feel that a single day would be sufficient to <br />get total community involvement. He felt there should be continuing activity. <br /> <br />Commissioner Rollins asked how the Parks & Recreation Commission might aid <br />the Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA) , and Mr. Mitchell requested the <br />Commission's thoughts, ideas, and suggestions regarding the celebration of <br />this important event. Mr. Mitchell also mentioned that the PCA has an office <br />which is located at 680 Main Street in Redwood City and may be contacted there. <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Rollins suggested depicting Redwood City as it was 200 years ago. <br />Along the same lines, Commissioner Schenck suggested getting the schools <br />involved in erecting a "city" depicting that time period and utilizing it as <br />a fair with various exhibits and events going on. <br /> <br />Mr. Mitchell mentioned that the high school drama instructor was thinking of <br />putting on the play "1776". <br /> <br />Chairperson Weintraub thanked Mr. Mitchell for taking the time to bring the <br />Commission up-to-date regarding the bi-centennial and assured him that the <br />Commission would be contacting Mr. Mitchell in the near future with suggestions <br />and ideas. <br /> <br />
