Mr. Coehlo from Redwood Chapel discussed the problem of vandalism and
destruction in union Cemetery. His main suggestion was that of using
ice plant (extended from the Woodside Road overpass) to landscape the
Cemetery which would discourage bicycle riding through the cemetery,
picnics in the cemetery, and general overuse of the area. He also
suggested exposing the entire Cemetery by discarding hedges and high
walls. He felt this would also discourage vandalism.

~ - - -

;56

CORRESPONDENCE

Chairwoman Weintraub recommended the articles in the December/January
issue of the California Parks & Recreation magazine which start on page
18 and continue through page 22.

AGENDA ITEM 1 - Discussion of Union Cemetery

A general discussion followed regarding past recommendations by the
Design & Development Committee of the Commission (report made January
of 1974), legal ramifications, and future objectives for upgrading the
Cemetery.

Joe Mel of the Rotary Club mentioned to the Commission that the Club was
looking for a project and expressed his concern with the upgrading of
the Cemetery.
