He
discussed design features which would protect the courts as well as give some
shade to the courts and would also be compatible with the design of the park.
Mr. Weeks also indicated he had spoke with the Public Works Department regarding
the possibility of utilizing their employee trained in architecture to do the
design work, thereby saving design costs in Phase III. This project would be expedited, if the corrunission concurred, and possi-
bly completed by early summer or late spring.

Mr. Weeks sta ted this was one project which the Department would recommend if it
meets with the concurrence of the Commission. Mr. Weeks indicated that he had related
to the bocci ball representatives that the project has been purely a matter of
priorities and funding with respect to the total ,development of the park.

Mr. Weeks added that the City Council on March 10,1975 recognized the letter sent
to them from the bocci ball representatives accompanied by a petition and further
recognized tha tit had been sen t to the Parks & Recrea tion Commission. The
Council indicated they felt confident that the Parks & Recreation corrunission
would make the best decision they felt appropriate.

corrunissioner Pound requested the letter from the bocci ball representatives be
read to the Commission and Chairperson Weintraub accommodated her request.

Commissioner Rollins questioned the adequacy of the covering with regard to
keeping the court dry. Mr. Weeks indicated that the cover would be dtåsd.gned with
sufficient overhand to minimize blowing rain.

Commissioner Knecht asked for an approximation of the cost of the new covering.
Mr. Weeks stated that it would probably be $6,000 to $8,000. Commissioner Schenck
mentioned that there was some review at the Budget Committee meetings of the
Phase II balance, and it was decided within the Corrunittee that any additional funds
from Phase II would be utilized in Phase II as much as possible.

Commissioner Schenck asked if there was another project which might be included in
the design of Phase II that might be completed with the unused portion of monies.
