<br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department <br /> <br />Highlights of Objectives Carrying Forward to 99-00 <br />. There is conceptual agreement among the County, Elementary School <br />District and the City to proceed with the development or improvement of 4 <br />playing fields (2 Garfield, 1 Taft and 1 Fairs Oaks). Work will proceed on the <br />development agreement and landscape architectural plans. All parties have <br />agreed construction should not begin prior to the Summer of 2000. <br />. Work with Community College District for expanded playing fields at the <br />Canada College site will continue into the new fiscal year. <br />. Stulsaft Park improvements are behind schedule because of necessary site <br />soils testing. <br />. A Request for Proposals for a Computerized Maintanance Management <br />System for both Building Maintenance and Custodial functions will go out in <br />January, 1999 with implementation scheduled for June, 1999. <br />. Various customer service measurements tied to internal surveys and <br />performance will continue. <br /> <br />Council Top Ten and Priorities <br />. Creating additional playing fields in conjunction with the County and School <br />District <br />. Increasing available playing field space at Canada College <br />. Stafford/Stulsaft Park <br />. EI Camino Real Medians <br />. Skateboard Park <br /> <br />New Internal Initiatives <br />. Complete reorganization of recreation and community service programs to <br />allow for increased collaborative efforts such as the PAL cooperative for after <br />school elementary sports <br />. Improved disaster preparedness efforts will include looking at emergency <br />portable power for four community centers with potential for use as shelters <br />. Automating the irrigation systems through out the City <br />. Increased use of interns and volunteer resources throughout the department <br />. Redwood City 2000 Youth After School Master Planning effort <br /> <br />Trends <br />New After school program dollars at both federal, state, local levels <br />New funding increasing tied to multi - agency efforts <br />Strong employment market makes recruitment for entry level recreation and <br />community services staff a challenge. <br /> <br />Narrative <br />The major impact of the top 10 will be less management focus on the day to day <br />operations, new internal improvement initiatives and employee team building and <br />development. <br />
