<br />L_~ <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Minutes of Wednesday, July 25, 1990 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairperson Howard, Commissioners <br />Davis, Mortensen, Nordness, Slusser, <br />and Swope ' <br /> <br />Commissioner Co s t e_ll; (vacation) <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Councilwoman Judy Buchan, <br />Kristen Anderson of Child Care <br />Consortium, Jean Cloud & Helen Graves <br />of the Union Cemetery Committee <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Parks, Recreation & Community <br />Services Director Griffiths and <br />Administrative Secretary Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairperson Diane Howard .in Room 5 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the May 23 meeting were approved as corrected. Commissioner <br />Slusser asked that a correction be made to Item 5. The dates for the park <br />tour should read September 8 and September 22. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />Director Griffiths stated all matters of correspondence received were <br />answered and copies forwarded to the Commissioners. Commissioner Slusser <br />stated he had received a letter from a Redwood Shores resident but would <br />like to bring this matter to the Commission1s attention during Roundtable <br />discussion. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Child Care Report <br /> <br />Kristen Anderson of the Redwood City Child Care Consortium presented the <br />results of her report on child care for Redwood City. All Commissioners <br />received copies of the final report. The report investigated what the <br />City's role should be in relation to child care. It identified major areas <br />to study and made recommendations in each of those areas. Background <br />reports were prepared and are available for review. The end result was a <br />draft policy statement and a set of recommendations. Ms. Anderson wants <br />feedback, ideas, priorties to work on, from the Commission as well as the <br />general public. Based on the feedback received, the draft will be,revised <br />and presented to the City Council in August. Once the general policy <br />statements are approved, a 5 year plan could be developed to meet <br />those recommendations. Councilwoman Buchan, a member of the Child Care <br />Committee, urged everyone to read the report and all background papers <br />supporting the report. She was anxious for feedback and felt it was <br /> <br />
