<br />. <br />~' . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />equipment & facilities, recruits, advertises, provides flyers, publicity, <br />takes care of registration, and in some cases has purchased special <br />equipment for classes, all at no cost to the instructors. All fall classes <br />are at capacity and the Department has spoken with the instructors <br />affected. The Recreation Program Coordinator has done some research in the <br />health/exercise field and discovered that most exercise instructors earned <br />a maximum of $20.00 per hour. The hourly rates paid to our instructors have <br />been inconsistent with the outside job market for some time and it was felt. <br />we needed to bring our rates in line with other cities. The Commission was <br />notified about this policy as a matter of interest in the budget process <br />and did not require any action on behalf of the Commission. Chairperson <br />Howard suggested that the Commissioners could contact Director Griffiths <br />should they want to discuss the situation further. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - UNION CEMETERY <br /> <br />Commisioner Swope advised the Commission that $15,000 has been authorized <br />for a Union. Cemetery Cultural Resources Management Plan and the next step <br />is getting the RFP approved. She wanted to thank Nita, Jean and Helen of <br />the Union Cemetery Committee for their work. She also wanted to thank <br />Director Griffiths for his work on this project. Commissioner Swope noted <br />that Thad Van Bueren from the State Office of Historical Preservation came <br />down from Sacramento to tour the cemetery and has been very helpful. He <br />has offered to supply names of qualified individuals to complete a <br />management plan and also to supply names of funding agencies. Mr~ Van <br />Bueren also volunteered to be a reviewer of proposals. The entire RFP <br />procedure could take as much as 6 months for completion. Commissioner <br />Swope noted that Holly Heyser from the Times Tribune called and wanted to <br />do an article regarding Union Cemetery, and that an article had already <br />appeared in the Redwood City Weekly. <br /> <br />Nita Spangler of the Union Cemetery Committee wanted to thank the <br />Commission for their support in this project. She also thanked Director <br />Peter Griffiths and Commissioner Swope for their support and assistance. <br />She expressed her continued interest and offered. her assistance in the <br />completion of the project. Mrs. Spangler asked that the name of the <br />project be changed to the Cultural Resources Management Plan. She advised <br />the Commission that the Committee has been preparing all the background <br />information on Union Cemetery so it will be ready before the consultant is <br />hired. Chairperson Howard thanked Commissioner Swope for working with the <br />committee and also Nita and the Union Cemetery Committee for all their <br />work. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Park Tour <br /> <br />Saturday, October 27 has been selected as the date for the Joint Study <br />Session/Park Tour with the City Council. The tour will be preceded by a <br />short meeting with the City Council to discuss various Park and Recreation <br />topics. Commissioners Davis, Howard and Mortensen volunteered to form a <br />committee to meet with Director Griffiths and establish an agenda for the <br />meeting. <br /> <br />
