<br />~ <br /> <br />... <br />" <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - RED RIBBON WEEK <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Councilwoman Buchan invited the Commissioners to attend the Red Ribbon <br />Carnival to be held at Red Morton Park on Saturday, October 27 immediately <br />following the Park Tour. She reviewed the events planned for Red Ribbon <br />We?: <br /> <br />1) Poster Contest for Grades K-6; winning posters will be <br />displayed at Main Library beginning 10/16. <br />2) Essay Contest; winners will be published in Redwood City <br />Weekly News. <br />3) Police Department will be running their IIJust Say Noll program <br />in the Redwood City Schools. <br />4) Penny Carnival at Red Morton Park on 10/27. <br />5) Following the Carnival at 5:45 p.m., the 6 winners of ~h~ <br />essay contest will playa 3-;nn;ng baseball game with 3 <br />Police Officers and 3 firefighters at Griffin Field. <br />T-shirts will be given by the POA to the essay winners. <br />6) Immediately following will be a 7-inning baseball game <br />of the Police Department vs. the Fire Department with <br />Chief Tony Guardino and Chief Peter OIBrien officiating. <br />6) The Press will be notified of all events prior to the week's <br />activities. <br />7) POA will be having a hot dog BBQ during the carnival. <br />8) Publicity is being worked on; Kg units coming also. <br /> <br />- More volunteers are needed to assist with the Carnival. Anyone interested <br />should contact Recreation Supervisor Julie Hannon or Councilwoman Buchan by <br />October 12. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness reported that the delegation from our Sister City, <br />Zhuhai, China will arrive in Redwood City on September 30. On October 1, <br />the delegation is scheduled to attend a business meeting, a tour of <br />Sequoia Hospital, a visit to Canada College and conclude with a BBQ. <br />On October 2, the delegation will attend the luncheon and tour sponsored by <br />the Port of Redwood City Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br />MONTHLY REPORTS <br /> <br />-In reference to Corinne Centeno's report, Commissioner Swope was <br />interested in how the SHARE Program worked and was very pleased that we <br />could help out 35 homeless families. <br /> <br />-Chairperson Howard said that she sent a sympathy card on behalf of the <br />Commission to Mrs. Beryl Darnell. <br /> <br />-Chairperson Howard said the Commission should get a copy of the Americans <br />With Disabilities Act of 1990. The Parks & Recreation Department has one <br />on file which can be sent to all Commissioners. <br /> <br />., ... <br /> <br /> <br />""',,', , <br /> <br />
