As no other persons were nominated, nominations were <br />closed. Bob Slusser was unanimously elected Vice Chairperson of the Parks <br />and Recreation Commission for 1991. <br /> <br />COMMISSION REPORTS/MONTHLY REPORTS/MATTERS OF COMMISSION INTEREST <br /> <br />-Commissioner Costelli had no comments. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis asked that an electrician look at the lights at Red <br />Morton tennis courts as a few of the lights are out. He stated that the <br />PCC sponsors a IIJust Say No To Drugs" tennis tournament and thought the Red <br />Ribbon Committee might want to contact them to have this tournament <br />included in the Red Ribbon Week activities. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Slusser had no comments. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness commended Erlinda Tulioc for taking her group to <br />Disneyland during October. He also asked Director Griffiths to explain <br />what type of qualfications are required when people are hired as coaches. <br />Commissioner Hordness said there has been two visits from members of the <br />port commission of our proposed Sister City, Zhuhaì, China.' Plans are <br />currently being made for members of our community to visit Zhuha; in <br />mid-March. The individuals going to China will be paying their own way and <br />will not be subsidized by City funds. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Swope stated that the RFP for Union Cemetery has been <br />reviewed by a number of people and all input has been incorporated into the <br />final draft. The next step will be to have the City Attorney review the <br />RFP, after which it will be presented to the City Council for their <br />approval. She has designed a newletter to go out to the descendants of <br />Union Cemetery advising them of the plans Redwood City has for the site. <br />Once the City Council approves the RFP, it will go out to bid. A review <br />team consisting of Councilwoman Buchan, Director Griffiths and Commissioner <br />Swope will review all bids. After the screening process, approximately 2-5 <br />bidders will be invited for a personal interview. Once the selection has <br />been made and approved, it will take an estimated 3 months to complete this <br />project. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Mortensen stated he worked a booth at the Red Ribbon Carnival <br />and that there were many children in attendance. He also wanted to <br />compliment our landscape gardeners for their maintenance of our playing <br />fields. <br /> <br />-Chairperson Howard received a newsletter from Leslie Salt advising the <br />community of their progress and history in Redwood City. She wanted to <br />thank Recreation Supervisor Wooten for mentioning her co-ed softball team, <br />the Organ Donors, in his monthly report. She mentioned that the Pride and <br />Beautification Committee will be selecting three potential clean-up sites <br />for 1991. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was adjourned at <br />9:30 p.m. to be reconvened on Wednesday, January 23, 1991 in Redwood <br />Shores, location to be announced. <br /> <br />
