.

J

PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION

Minutes of Wednesday, February 27, 1991

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT:

Chairperson Hardness,
Commissioners Castelli, Davis,
Howard, Mortensen, Slusser and
Swope

COMMISSIONERS ABSENT:

Hone

GUESTS PRESENT:

Hita Spangler, Redwood Shores
Play Group Representatives Pam
Pontius, Cindy Gustafson, Ute Dousch,
Ann Haigh, Alan Pontius, Parine
Fowler, Terry McGraw, Margo Kolde,
and Velle Kolde

STAFF PRESENT:

l'

Parks & Recreation Director Peter
Griffiths, Management Analyst Ramon
Aguilar, and Administrative Secretary
Denise Monroe

The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to
order at 7:35 p.m. by Chairperson Ed Hordness in Room 5 of the Community
Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commission Swope asked that two corrections be made to the January minutes.
Under Item 4 - Union Cemetery Update, she wanted it clarified that the
person who complained about the $15,000 not being enough was not an
actual bidder. The second correction was made under Item 3 - Results of
Dogs in the Parks Survey. She wanted it clarified that Jan Knight made
three separate recommendations to the Commission. The minutes were
approved as corrected.

CORRESPONDENCE

There was no correspondence.

The following items were taken out of order.

ITEM 1 - Union Cemetery Update

Commission Swope said she spoke to four people who had responded to the
Union Cemetery RFP to verify their actual reason for not applying. The
respondents said they either did not have enough time to respond and/or had
too much other work at the time. Three out of the four people she spoke to
felt that the $15,000 allocated in the RFP was enough to complete the
project. Based on the information she received, Commissioner Swope
recommended the following: that a Statement of Qualification (SOQ) be sent
out to qualified contractors in the 94xxx and 95xxx zip code (within
driving range of Redwood City) as soon as possible; that we indicate
flexibility on project start date in a cover letter; allow 2-3 weeks to
receive responses; select a short list of up to four individuals/companies
