<br />i <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />school district is faced with a $2.8 million deficit this year, they are <br />not planning to put any funds or work into their fields. Director <br />Griffiths indicated that staff has examined the fields and has determined <br />that they need considerable work to be brought up to current standards. <br />The City Council has organized a task force to investigate this matter and <br />report back to them with their findings. Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar <br />has prepared a report for the task force to inform them of the alternatives <br />and costs associated with maintaining these additional fields. Councilman <br />Dick Claire, who will be chairperson of the task force, has requested the <br />participation of two Park and Recreation Commission members to the task <br />force. Commissioner Howard and Mortensen were selected ~o join. <br /> <br />Committee Reports/Monthly Reports/Matters of Commission Interest <br /> <br />-Chairperson Hordness reported that he will be visiting our Sister City, <br />Zhuhai, China in March. He has requested to meet with representatives of <br />Zhuhai1s Parks and Recreation Department if at all possible. He also asked <br />about the CAB and Vets Building and how often they are rented out. <br />Director Griffiths stated that the Department brings in between $33,000 and <br />$34,000 per year in rental revenue. Chairperson Hordness also noted that <br />the play uC;nderellall will be held on March 2-3 at the Vets Senior Center <br />and looked for the support of the Commission at this event. He also <br />commented on the improvements in the various parks he visited and wanted <br />to commend staff on their work in the parks. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Swope asked about Supervisor Hannon1s monthly report <br />pertaining to basketball practice times and basketball camp. There are 2-3 <br />times as many children in camp as in previous years. She commended the <br />Vets Senior Center for their program providing shopping assistance for <br />homebound seniors. She also noted the high level of participants in <br />Erlínda Tulioc1s program. Commissioner Swope wondered how many people <br />attended the NASA trip mentioned in Mike Blondino1s report. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard asked for an explaination of a IIGraffiti Gramll. <br />Director Griffiths explained this memo was developed by the Pride and <br />Beautification Committee and City staff to identify when graffiti ;s <br />located in the City. If you locate graffiti, complete a memo and send to <br />Carolyn McLaurin in the City Manager1s Office. Someone has been hired to <br />work 4 hours a day to repair graffiti. Blank forms will be sent to the <br />Commissioners for their use. Commissioner Howard also mentioned that the <br />the supply shed at Hawes appears to have some loose shakes on the roof that <br />need to be repaired, and that the sinks in the ladies restroom need to be <br />fixed. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis said he ;s supposed to attend the CPRS Conference in <br />March at the Santa Clara Convention Center. He mentioned that he may have a <br />job conflict and wondered if an alternate could be selected in the event he <br />could not attend. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was adjourned at <br />9:40 p..m. to be reconvened on Tuesday, March 26,1991 at 7:30 p.m. at the <br />Hotel Sofitel, Redwood City, California for a public meeting to discuss <br />Redwood Shores parks. <br /> <br />
