Some of the new regulations are: the group have over $1 million <br />in liability insurance to use a chasis¡ the group must obtain a tow vehicle <br />(e.g. garden tractor); people must now be bolted or strapped down on a <br />float; a fire retardant must be used on the float. Commissioner Slusser <br />said he has a Redwood Shores group that would' assist in assembling and <br />disassembling a flat bed for use in the parade, but that it would take <br />approximately 120 people hours to conceptualize, design and build the <br />float. He said that the deadline for applying to be in the parade is at <br />the end of March and work must start by next week if the Commission wants a <br />float in the parade. A discussion was held regarding this matter and it <br />was decided that the Commission would try to obtain the Thompson Toyota <br />fire truck for use again in the parade. Commissioners Slusser, Swope and <br />Howard will form a committee to work on the float and will contact Mr. <br />Thompson to solicit his ideas in the decoration of the truck. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Dogs in the Parks <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis reported that the Dogs in the Park Committee has met <br />twice and is looking at all alternatives to come up with a proposal to the <br />Commission. The next meeting of the committee,to be held on March 21, the <br />committee would like to look at raising the awareness in the City of <br />"pooper Scooperll laws. He mentioned that there was strong representation <br />from dog trainers on the committee and would like to see more citizen <br />participation on the committee. Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar told the <br />Commission that the Heather Dog Exercise Area in San Carlos had just <br />recently opened and he would be interested to hear their views relative to <br />this new site. Chairperson Hordness said he recently visited a new dog <br />exercise site in San Bruno which is located on an old school site. The <br />area is totally fenced in, has a dispenser for clean-up by dog owners, and <br />is city maintained. The cost to build the area was $3,500 with $2,000 of <br />the costs subsidized by a local dog supporters. The system appears to be <br />successful in San Bruno. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - Redwood Shores Public Meeting <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser stated that Tuesday, March 26 has been selected as the <br />date of the Redwood Shores Public Meeting which will replace the next <br />Commission meeting on March 27. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at <br />the Hotel Sofitel, which is providing the meeting room free of charge. He <br />will work with the Redwood Shores Community groups on publicity for the <br />meeting. He will also work with Director Griffiths on establishing the <br />agenda for the meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - Park Assignments <br /> <br />Chairperson Hordness reviewed the current park assignments with the <br />Commission and the reasons for making some changes for the 1991-92 period. <br />After considerable discussion, the Commissioners decided to list their top <br />six park preferences and turn the list into Director Griffiths. The park <br />assignments will be finalized at the April meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 7 - School Field Task Force <br /> <br />Director Griffiths informed the Commission that the City Council has <br />received more than 70 petitions from citizens regarding the Kiwanis Field <br />project. These citizens were concerned that the project be completed and <br />not removed from the budget. He assured the group that the project would <br />begin in July. The group also wanted to know why the department could not <br />also maintain the 62 acres of school district playing fields. As the <br /> <br /> <br />
