<br />i <br /> <br />meeting was very successful and was pleased with the dialogue between the <br />Redwood Shores residents and the Commissioners. He also made a <br />recommendation that the Commission conduct a similar type of public <br />meeting with various community groups throughout the City. Commissioners <br />Davis and Mortensen also expressed their pleasure with the success of the <br />meeting. Nita Spangler suggested that the department post a notice of the <br />community meeting on the door of Room 5 when a meeting is being held in a <br />different location. <br /> <br />Councilman Murray said he was amazed to see that so interest at this public <br />meeting. He felt the interplay between the audience, the Commissioners and <br />Director was handled very well and that everyone was treated with respect. <br />He mentioned that he called 28 people in the older section of Redwood <br />Shores whose opinions differed with those polled at the meeting. It was <br />his feeling that there was an opportunity to get support on anyone of the <br />possible park projects presented at the meeting. <br /> <br />Chairperson Nordness suggested prioritizing possible sites of future Park <br />and Recreation Community meetings throughout the community at the May <br />meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - 4th of July Parade <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser had nothing to report on this item. Superintendent <br />Hartman said that Commissioner Swope had called to notify the department <br />that Mr. Thompson's truck may not be available due to the possibility of <br />the truck being sold. Commissioner Mortensen mentioned that Jim Francis <br />of Bay Area Piggyback owns a late 1960lS red Oldsmobile convertible which <br />could be used as a back-up vehicle for the parade. He indicated he would <br />check with Mr. Francis to see if the Commission could use it. This matter <br />will be placed on the May agenda. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Commission Park Inspection Program <br /> <br />The following park assignments were made: <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope - Dove Beeger, Wellesley Crescent, Laurie Duncan, <br />Stafford, Union Cemetery <br />Commissioner Mortensen - Red Morton, Hoover, Mariner, Dolphin <br />Commissioner Slusser - Mezes, Spinas, Jardin de Ninos, Hoover, Mariner <br />Commissioner Davis - Westwood, Garrett, Stulsaft, Red Morton Community <br />Center <br />Commissioner Howard - Hawes, Palm, Dolphin, Community Activities Building <br />Commissioner Truscelli - Shorebird, Maddux, Red Morton Park, Veterans <br />Memorial Center <br />Chairperson Nordness - Fleishman, Linden, Marlin, Fair Oaks Community <br />Center <br /> <br />Chairperson Hordness said he will contact newly appointed Commissioner <br />Truscelli to explain what is expected on park visits. He also asked for <br />any suggestions to revise the park review forms. It was suggested that <br />water fountains and parking areas be included in the Commissioner1s review <br />of park assignments. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - Report on China Trip <br /> <br />Chairperson Hordness reported on his recent trip to our Sister City <br />Zhuha;, China. He said that approximately 20 people including San Mateo <br />County Supervisor Tom Nolan attended. He reported that Zhuhai did not exist <br />10 years ago and now has a population of 367,000 and is the same land size <br /> <br />
