.

~
~

Mr. Schoofs explained that it is impossible to playa tournament with 30-40
players on just two tennis courts and that a minimum of four courts would
be necessary. Commissioner Howard asked if assessing a fee for groups to
obtain exclusive use of the courts would be a way of dealing with this
issue. Director Griffiths said that a policy needed to be established
concerning the exclusive use of tennis courts for groups. Jan Knight
mentioned the possbility of a co-sponsored club event in exchange for
tennis classes offered in the Redwood Shores Area. Mr. Schoofs said that
the Tennis Club has hired a professional to offer classes to its members
and this might be a possibility. Commissioner Slusser was concerned about
locking up the tennis courts for a period of time and felt that the
Commission needed to look at the long-range impact of this matter.
A suggestion was made that Mr. Schoofs request the use of the private
tennis courts near Nikkon for tournament play. Because he was unable to
obtain permission from the Commission before this meeting, Mr. Schoofs
has arranged to have several of the home matches played at other
facilities. There are presently only a few home matches remaining where use
of the Redwood Shores tennis courts would be required.

MIS Slusser/Mortensen:

To allow the Men1s Team of the Redwood Shores
Tennis Club access to the tennis courts on
July 11 from 6-9pm; make no further allocations
until a policy has been developed by the
Commission.

M/S Slusser/Swope: To amend the motion to allow the Men1s Club access to
the courts on June 20 and July 11.
Commissioner Mortensen withdrew his second to the original motion.

A role call vote was taken by the Commissioners:

Nordness - no
Slusser - yes

Howard - yes
Swope - yes

Mortensen - no

Motion passed.

Chairperson Nordness appointed Commissioner Slusser to chair a committee to
study the exclusive use of tennis courts and report back to the Commission
with its recommendation. Also included on the committee were Commissioner
Davis and Director Griffiths. Commissioner Mortensen will check with
private courts in the area to determine availability for group tournaments.
Commissioner Slusser will visit the Dolphin and Shorebird tennis courts
during the tournaments on June 20 and July 11 to determine impact on the
residents.

ITEM 2 - 4th of July Parade

Commissioner Slusser said that since the Thompson Toyota Dealership ;s up
for sale, their fire truck will not be available for the 4th of July
Parade. Commissioner Mortensen said Jim Francis has agreed to let the
Commissioners use his 1960ls Oldsmobile convertible in the parade and will
also drive the car in the parade. Chairperson Nordness said he has located
fire trucks in Livermore and on the Peninsula that could also be used. It
was decided that Mr. Francis1s car would be used in the parade.
Chairperson Nordness asked that Commissioner Mortensen contact Jim Francis
to confirm the signage to be placed on his car and to also contact Sally
Morrison at the PCA to determine if car meets parade requirements.
