<br />- <br />! <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Minutes of Wednesday, June 26,1991 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Vice Chairperson Slusser, <br />Commissioners Davis, Howard, <br />Mortensen, Swope and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairperson Hordness <br /> <br />City Councilwoman Judy Buchan, <br />70 citizens in attendance for the <br />Dogs in Park Information Gathering <br />Session <br /> <br />Director Peter Griffiths, <br />Recreation Center Supervisor Jan <br />Knight, Management Analyst Ramon <br />Aguilar and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order at 7:35 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Robert Slusser in Rooms 2-3 at the <br />Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes for the May meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />-A letter was received from Frank Hartman of the Redwood City School <br />District stating that the district would be unable to repair their fields <br />for the after school sports programs sponsored by the Park and Recreation <br />Department. Mr. Hartman stated the school district's financial problems <br />prohibited them from maintaining their playing fields to the level <br />required. Director Griffiths explained that the letter was ;.n response to <br />Mike Blondino.s letter to the school district regarding the status of their <br />playing fields. He said that the Park and Recreation Department is trying <br />to work with the school district to help resolve the problems with their <br />field maintenance. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Dogs in the Parks-Information Gathering Session <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis explained that the Dogs in the Park Subcommittee, <br />consisting of himself, Commissioner Diane Howard, Management Analyst Ramon <br />Aguilar, Recreation Center Supervisor Jan Knight, Councilwoman Judy Buchan, <br />and two representatives of the Redwood City Elementary School District, was <br />formed last winter by the Parks and Recreation Commission after a request <br />was received by a citizen to allow dogs in the parks. Commissioner Davis <br />explained that the Parks and Recreation Commission ;s an advisory body and <br />can only make recommendations to the City Council. Any changes to existing <br />ordinances can be made only by the City Council. The subcommittee has <br />researched this matter and surveyed nearby communities to determine what <br /> <br />
