.

.

Commissioner Howard said that with an estimated 15,000 dogs in Redwood City,
there does appear to be a need to allow dogs in the parks. She felt that
parks in Redwood City are not large and are busy with lots of activities
which are not condusive to dogs in the parks. She was in favor of a trial
area accessible to dog owners.

Mr. Dow agreed that there should be an open area for dogs, but not in Redwood
City parks. He said that the field area behind Garrett Park had been
mentioned as a possible site and he was concerned about how people would be
getting their dogs to that site. The only way to get to the field would be
to walk through Garrett Park or enter through a gate near the Community
Store. He was concerned about the issue of enforcement of current law and
suggested that the signage in parks inform people of the fine for bringing
their dogs to the park.

Commissioner Davis said that the committee will meet and have a report for
the October Commission meeting.

Recreation Center Supervisor Jan Knight prepared a handout which was given to
Director Griffiths for the Commission relating to dogs in the parks.

ITEM 2 - GRAFFITI PROGRAM

Director Griffiths said that he was notified by Councilwoman Judy Buchan that
the Pride and Beautification Committee will meet on September 11 at 7:30am at
the City Hall Conference Room to discuss the next year1s agenda of
acitivities. She mentioned that the committee would like to do one graffiti
clean-up somewhere in the city and would like to identify possible sites.
The Commission was invited to attend the meeting.

ITEM 3 - SCHOOL FIELD MAINTENANCE

Chairperson Nordness said he discussed this matter with the Mayor recently
and was informed that Councilman Dick Claire is in charge of this committee.
Councilman Claire was provided with a copy of comprehensive report prepared
by Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar relative to school field maintenance.
Commissioner Mortensen said he would contact Councilman Claire regarding this
matter. Commissioner Slusser will be replacing Commissioner Howard as the
Commission representative.

ITEM 4 - PARK TOUR

Director Griffiths indicated the Saturday, September 21 has been selected as
the date of the Park Tour. The day will begin at 8:00am with donuts and
coffee at the CAB, followed by a one hour meeting and a park tour. It was
suggested that the tour include Fleishman Park, Jardin de Ninos and a
thorough tour of Red Morton Park. The tour will end at approximately 11:30am
and lunch will follow. Director Griffiths said he will develop an agenda for
the joint meeting with the City Council.
