.

i

.

. After questions by the Commissioners, Ms. Fairburn noted that 97-98% of the
RCTCls members are Redwood City residents. She also explained that RSTC
has never received any complaints about parking from residents at Dolphin
Park. The group usually parks at Shorebird Park and carpools to Dolphin
Park. RSTC runs various types of tournaments during the year and typically
draws 25-40 people for each tournament.

Director Griffiths explained that a copy of the playing schedule is given to
the Redwood Shores Park crew so that the courts are ready before the
tournaments are played. He mentioned that major repairs will be made to the
Shorebird Park tennis courts later this year which probably would disrupt the
tennis club1s tournament schedule. He will be in contact with the group when
the work is scheduled later this year.

Ms. Fairburn explained that although they have exclusive use of the tennis
courts, they have never encountered any problems with other groups or
residents wanting to use the courts. She also mentioned that one week prior
to the tournament dates, signs are posted at Dolphin and Shorebird to
advise the general public of the dates of play.

MIS Swope/Truscelli: To allow Redwood Shores Tennis Club exclusive use
of the Dolphin and Shorebird tennis courts for
the dates requested during 1992.

Motion passed.

Commissioner Davis asked that since this is the third year the Redwood Shores
Tennis Club has come to the Commission requesting exclusive use of the courts
for tournaments, was it possible for the group not to have to come each year
and make a presentation. The Commissioners agreed to leave it up to Director
Griffiths to determine if the group needed to come each year.

ITEM 2 - Union Cemetery Update

Commissioner Swope said the Union Cemetery clean-up held on January 25 was a
success and over 30 people participated. She said a great deal was
accomplished and noted that some fittings and foundations were discovered
during the clean-up. She said that Brìan-Kangas-Faulk made a successful
aerial flyover and the preliminary mapping has been completed. Director
Griffiths mentioned that he would be contacting Melinda Peak of Peak &
Associates to determine when they would be able to begin work.

Nita Spangler thanked Susan Swope and Peter Griffiths for their work on Union
Cemetery. The preliminary mapping was set up and reviewed by the
Commissioners. Commissioner Swope explained that Peak & Associates would
direct the Commission on how to complete the inventory, relating historical
data to what is there, assessing value and construct a Cultural Resource Plan
(CRP). The CRP will indicate what should be repaired in the cemetery and how
it should be repaired in order to retain its National Historic status. After
the draft plan is developed, it will be presented to the Commission for
approval before being presented to the City Council for final approval.

Chairperson Slusser asked Commissioner Swope to contact the press regarding
publicity of Union Cemetery as certain milestones are reached in the project.
Commissioner Davis also commended Commissioner Swope and Director Griffiths
for their work on this project.

, ~. .
, "-.

, , '

~

.'

..4,.«\:",,'.. :' ,,'.,

.--
,,'-,,:-:.',-, ':, -
