A

~,

r

J

To express the Commission1s joint concern that there
have been increased responsibilities assigned to the
Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
that were previously the responsibility of other
departments. Funding should have been transferred from
the originating department to Parks and Recreation and
not taken out of Park and Recreation1s existing budget.

Motion unanimously passed.

M/S Swope/Davis:

Committee Reports
Nothing to report.

Monthly Reports

-Commissioner Truscelli noted that the seniors at the Veterans Memorial
Senior Center donated $6,900.00 for new fluorescent lights at the Center.

-Commissioner Swope noted that the Senior Center programs were very
impressive.

-Commissioner Davis mentioned Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor
Blondino1s fund raising efforts to establish a scholarship fund.

Matters of Commission Interest

-Commissioner Truscelli noted that she and Vince cooked at IILunch with the
Bunny" and intend to do so again next year. She attended the American Legion
Memorial Day Service and opening day of the Redwood City National Little
League at Hawes Park and felt both ceremonies were very impressive.

-Commissioner Swope went to the 10:00am Memorial Day Service at Union
Cemetery and felt the department did an excellent job preparing the cemetery.
She felt there is a need for an adequate outdoor sound system for this type
of event and asked Director Griffiths if the department had one. She also
noted that Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar has done an excellent job keeping
all parties updated on the Union Cemetery project. There will be a IIhands on
trainingll workshop for volunteers on Saturday, June 6 from 8:30am to 2:00pm
at the cemetery and noted that Burger King is donating all breakfast and
lunch food for the event.

-Chairperson Slusser suggested installing a locked utility box at Union
Cemetery to provide electricity for a sound system.

-Commissioner Mortensen felt three electrical scoreboards are needed at
Griffin, Bechet and McGarvey fields. Director Griffiths said the scoreboards
would cost $4,000.00 each and funds would have to be allocated through the
Capital Improvement budget.

-Nita Spangler said she attended the 8:00am and 10:00am Memorial Day programs
held at Union Cemetery and that she sent a memo to Ramon Aguilar suggesting
that they be consolidated into one ceremony.

The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was adjourned at
10:10pm, to be reconvened at 7:30pm on June 24,1992 at the Community
Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California.
