Director Griffiths mentioned the Department was forced to close the gymnasium
this month due to an accident which occurred to an employee of Red Morton.
The floor is being repaired at a cost of $9,850 and the gym will be reopened
after the repairs have been completed.

The RFP has been scheduled for the July 20th City Council meeting.

ITEM 3 - JOINT CITY/SCHOOL DISTRICT PROJECT UPDATE

Director Griffiths stated Philip Singer of Singer and Hodges Inc. originally
prepared five sets of conceptual drawings for the proposed joint City/School
District project. These five drawings were then narrowed down to three.
The final three drawings were sent to Redwood Shores Inc., the City Council,
City staff and Belmont School District personnel for their review and
comments.

Director Griffiths brought the three drawings to the meeting and reviewed
each of them with the Commission, highlighting their strengths and
weaknesses. He noted the plans for having a City library on the site have
been withdrawn due to the expensive start-up costs associated with a new
library. The library for this project will be a school library and will
be the responsibility of the Belmont School District. During the evening
hours, the ballfields, hardcourts and community center would be the City.s
responsibility. Director Griffiths said the Belmont School District is
organizing a citizens group in order to gain community support of this
project and it was estimated the group will be in operation in August.

Director Griffiths said a City maintenance facility will be built on 1,500 to
2,000 square feet of the site which will be used for Redwood Shores park
maintenance personnel and equipment. It may also be used for General
Services personnel to maintain the pump station at the site. He mentioned
$1.4 million in GID-1-64 funds have been set aside for this project. He is
currently waiting for final comments on the drawings and then Philip Singer
will prepare a color rendering of the plan selected.

The Commissioners unanimously selected drawing #3 and made several
comments/suggestions to the plan.

ITEM 4 - BUDGET UPDATE

Director Griffiths said the second City Council budget hearing was held
Monday, June 22 and the Department1s budget was reviewed by the Council at
that time. He said the hearing went very well for the Department and that
the City Council added $15,000 to the Fair Oaks budget to increase their
Child Care Coordinator position from 50% to 75%. He mentioned the City
Council is waiting to see what budget cuts they would receive from the State.
All department heads will be meeting next week to develop some contingency
plans in response to planned budget cuts from the State.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

-Commissioner Swope reported on the Union Cemetery Committee and the recent
Saturday work sessions held at the site. She praised Project Manager Ramon
Aguilar for his excellent planning and organizing of each work session. She
mentioned Mr. Aguilar also organized a very successful dinner for the Union

.
