<br />, <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Cemetery Committee and the two project consultants in order to develop an <br />organized plan to address the work to be done at the work sessions. She <br />estimated there were over 50 volunteers at the first Saturday session and <br />over 30 people at the following two Saturday sessions. Volunteers included <br />Commissioner Swope and Truscelli and Mr. Vince Truscelli. The volunteers <br />were very enthusiastic and even came back to the Cemetery the next day <br />(Sunday) to work. Commissioner Swope also commended the Park crew who <br />assisted the volunteers at the first Saturday session. She mentioned the <br />laser survey was not precise but the volunteers were still able to perform <br />the necessary work. Commissioner Truscellialso expressed her pleasure with <br />Mr. Aguilar, his impressive organization of this project and the enthusiasm <br />of the volunteers. Another work session has been scheduled for June 27. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness said the Redwood City International Organization <br />recently received a delegation of eight from Zhuhai, China He said four <br />Asian-American beauty pageant winners will be in the 4th of July parade. <br />He also mentioned the Chinese people have expressed an interest in having <br />a soccer team exchange with our community. <br /> <br />MONTHLY REPORTS <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis commended Recreation Center Supervisor Jan Knight on her <br />May monthly report which dealt with the hiring of students for summer jobs. <br />He wondered if Project Manager Ramon Aguilar should establish some type of <br />policy regarding parking cars at Union Cemetery especially during Memorial <br />Day ceremonies. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Mortensen mentioned Supervisor Hernandez.s report which noted <br />damage to the 4ger/Kiwanis field irrigation wiring by the contractor and <br />wondered who would be paying for the damages. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness referred to Supervisor Kucala1s report and commended <br />the Intergenerational Program for its work with students in the community. <br />He also felt Sequoia Hospital should be thanked for all the workshops they <br />provide free of charge at the Senior Center. He also commented on the Drug <br />Free Zones established at Hoover and Taft Schools. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard also commented on Recreation Center Supervisor Jan <br />Knight1s monthly report. She felt it was well written, heart-warming and <br />enjoyed it very much. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Truscelli said she visited the Summer Playground Programs at <br />Maddux and Red Morton Park and reported seeing over 40 children at the Maddux <br />program. She observed and spoke with several of the students hired as <br />recreation instructors and lifeguards for the parks and the pools and said <br />she was very impressed with the high quality of people who were hired. She <br />also mentioned the landscaping in the parks looks great. <br /> <br />MATTERS OF COMMISSION INTEREST <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis reported the high school district was about to close <br />their pools due to financial problems, but instead has decided to lease out <br />their pools to turn them into revenue producers.
